Transferring Ave Unit Cost to Standard Unit Cost

Wayne, I suspect you would see the changes to standard cost as ADJ-CST
transactions in Parttran but can't confirm this for sure. I use the master
file import/export utility extensively and I agree it should be part of the
standard package. BTW, epicor also wants to charge you for custom
programming to update the utilities (as if you are the only one using them)
if you want to continue using the utilities when you upgrade Vantage
versions - not fair in my opinion.

Unfortunately, that utility is not a standard part of Vantage. (should it
be?! Call and harass your rep!) It's a $2500 option.

Anyone know what happens behind the scenes when you change it in the
regular parts screen? If it's a simple as copying from the Avg to Std
fields, I can throw something together to copy them for you.

Hi progress gurus,

I had some excellent help from some individuals using progress to convert our 9,323 parts from Average to Standard cost, and also to eliminate some errant country codes in 3.0 before our conversion to 4.0.

Now, I have 9,323 parts with 0 (zero) Standard Cost. Anyone have a simple, fast way to transfer the current Average cost of each part over to it's Standard Cost field? (This would apply to each unit Burden, unit Labor, unit Material).
We really don't care if there is no Transaction History on these parts (as would happen if you did a cost adjustment) since the inventory should be exactly the same value before and after the transfer of the costs.
This could be done in Vantage 3.0 or 4.0 or 5.0 since that's where we're heading anyway.

Another option might be to do this using Access, linking live through ODBC. Any comments on that as well?

Hi Troy,
I'm no techie so I like the simple things in life - I
don't know if this is of use........when we have been
performing mass changes like this one I have found the
Master File Export/Import utility easy to use. If you
download the Part table as a "d" file and then open it
in Excel as a delimited file you can cut/paste the 3
Average cost columns into the Standard cost columns,
save it as a .csv file(or whatever format you usually
use) and import this back into Vantage and then do a
cost roll up. I always run mass changes like this one
through our test DB first since Murphy's law is alive
and well on this side of the pond.

I don't know if I'm missing something simple, but I don't seem to have the Master File Export/Import feature. Someone else suggested the same thing and it sounds like it would work splendidly. I only have the Export Utility under Utilities in Vantage. Anyone know what I'm missing and how much it costs?

Hi Troy,
I assumed that everyone had this feature in Utilities.
I know these utilities existed before V4, as we road
tested the converted programs for V4 at the end of
1999. We used these tables(MasterFile Export/Import &
BOM Export/Import) to load all of our static data into
Vantage(8000 parts, 22000 each BoM & Routing lines,
plus Customer/Vendor/Work Centre tables etc) at cut
over from our old system.
Being non-techie, how did you load your data in
without this?
If this facility doesn't come in the box of goodies
when you open it, maybe we should talk to Mr Epicor
about it.

Regards,
Mike
