Training Database 5.0

Dina:
Just got back from the NY/PA users' group meeting. Asked Dave, the Epicor
rep there if I could use procontrol to start/stop the 5.0 database instead
of Progress Explorer per installation instructions. According to him, "No,
you have to use Progress Explorer". I asked this question because,
personally I like procontrol - I understand it, it's less cumbersome to use
than Pro Explorer, etc.

Are you using the procontrol to start/stop 5.? I've planned on trying this,
just haven't gotten to it yet.

Subject: [Vantage] Training Database 5.0

We installed Vantage 5.0 on a "dummy server". The training database is
giving me an error when I try to start it from procontrol. "Can not
find (.lk) file.

We were training someone which may have made a mistake. I was going to
do a back up from 4.0 training and restore it to 5.0 training but we
removed 4.0 already from this computer.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dina

Usually happens if the database files have been moved to a different
directory using windoze tools. This is from Epicor's site; had it handy
from Monday....

============================================================
Unable to Find .LK file (5199).

Problem Resolution:

If the database was copied using windows explorer, you will need to run the
Progress utility "prostrct repair".

The error from the NT Event Viewer will state: "Database is Copy of"
followed by a path of the database's original location.

How to fix:
1) At the NT Server, go to a MSDOS Command Prompt.
2) Change Directories to the folder where the copied database is.
3) Next, set the DLC variable. At the prompt type: set dlc=c:\epicor\progress
4) Again at the prompt type: c:\epicor\progress\bin\prostrct repair vantage
5) Once the prompt returns, type: exit
6) Start the database.

Additional information:

You can locate the V:\Vantage\Db\Vantage.st file and right mouse click
selecting "edit". If the vantage.st file looks like this:
#
b.\vantage.b1
#
d "Schema Area":6,32.\vantage.d1

Then you can either change directory into the Vantage\db folder so your are
standing in the folder when you run "prostrct repair" or again edit the
file to look like the second sample below. If the Vantage.st looks like
this one, you can run the command below.

cd c:\epicor\vantage\db
set dlc=c:\epicor\progress
c:\progress\bin\prostrct repair vantage

Alternatively, you can edit the Vantage.st file to look like the following,
giving each extent the full path of where it is now living. This is useful
if you have multiple drives in the Server and want to have the B1 file on
one drive and the D1 and DB on the other.

#
b C:\Epicor\vantage\db
#
d "Schema Area":6,32 C:\Epicor\vantage\db

Then if the file looks like the above, run the command below:

cd c:\epicor\progress bin
set dlc=c:\epicor\progress
prostrct repair c:\epicor\vantage\db\vantage
