To Epicor CEO's and Management team

I take a slightly different stance on this issue.

I wonder how many of us are tired of keeping our frustrations pent up and not saying anything about it.

Considering the fact that we sign the paychecks for Epicor's employees (as with any vendor) we should have some say in the direction Epicor is heading. I strongly feel that in my business if I don't listen to my customers they should head elsewhere.

I am not trying to insult Epicor in anyway, please don't take that from what I have said in this email. I am just in support of venting a little frustration in the only place one of us feels we may get heard.

Maybe the email was constructed in a way that doesn't comply with standards in this group, but don't take away the fact that this person has an extremely valid concern, and that everyone should be aware.

Just a bit of advice--I attended Perspectives last year, and George Klaus (Chairman and CEO) spoke eloquently about his concerns about our satisfaction. He mentioned that he takes and responds to his email. If other routes seems to get nowhere, perhaps an email direct to him can help. I don't know for sure, but I would guess that his email is gklaus@....

AFAIK, Epicor has confirmed that there is a problem with the latest
Crystal runtime when installed on Windows 2000 and have indicated that
it and SP 808 should not be applied to Win2K until they can resolve the

Has there been in fact any confirmation of 2K no longer being supported?
What is the Effect? What are the details? Is there reference to this on

Epicor Website?

The last time I called my Epicor support #, I went straight to a VM Box.
and
no return call.

I don't want to go into panic mode yet, so if anyone out there can shed
some
light to this, I would be most appreciative.

Where are your promises to make Vantage client compatible with any
operating system?
Without any announcement you stop supporting Windows 2000. Customers
paying you big bucks for maintenance and you unable to support them.
Do you know how many customers using other operating systems than
Windows XP?
Did you do survey before you change?
If you can't deliver upgrades and support your customers will have to
discontinue the maintenance agreement............

You need to fix Vantage 8 and Crystal.

Before someone is vetted for inclusion in this YahooGroup (customer, Epicor, consultant, etc... with Vantage or Vista connection/ownership) doesn't this process require registering with their true identity and credentials? It's been a long time since I joined. Assuming you know the "identity" behind an email address or screen name would it be an OK policy for the moderators to "thank" anonymous senders for their comments, by name?

On the other hand tracking down blank profiles and or their validity would be time consuming for the moderators and it is an under-appreciated enough job as it is.

But I want us to aspire to a higher standard. WE are supposed to be
professionals and smarter than most. The nature of the list allows us to
THINK before posting. Not an unreasonable expectation. I believe that the
members of this list have a right to know who is behind a strong statement
and that includes Epicor, they are "members" too. The moderators have a
responsibility to maintain control, call the fouls, and in general try to
keep it fair to all. Overall we are not going to allow this list to spiral
into a "KILL THE WABBIT, KILL THE WABBIT" situation. Strong unsigned posts
concern me in that regard.

You are absolutely correct, and this group has enough talent that anyone
could pull that information out. There was a thread earlier this week about
etique. This posting is a good example to use why its important to clearly
identify yourself. I think it is only fair that you take ownership for
strong words, that hasn't happened in this case. I've made strong posts
directed at Epicor, and members both, everyone alway knew who it was from.

Has there been in fact any confirmation of 2K no longer being supported?
What is the Effect? What are the details? Is there reference to this on the
Epicor Website?

The last time I called my Epicor support #, I went straight to a VM Box. and
no return call.

I don't want to go into panic mode yet, so if anyone out there can shed some
light to this, I would be most appreciative.

AFAIK, Epicor has confirmed that there is a problem with the latest
Crystal runtime when installed on Windows 2000 and have indicated that
it and SP 808 should not be applied to Win2K until they can resolve the
issue.

efficiency of crystal reports printing from Vantage 8.0, Epicor with
the assistance of Business Objects (the makers of Crystal Reports)
enhanced the current Crystal Reports Runtime Engine using the latest
Microsoft technology that is currently only available on Windows XP
Service Pack 2 and later. The resulting product, Crystal Reports XI
Runtime R2, increases printing performance dramatically.



This enhancement was in direct response to customers concerns about
printing performance.
To utilize this new functionality the client is required to be on
Windows XP Service Pack 2. Without this operating system or an
operating system released after this, printing Crystal Reports from
Vantage will not function correctly due to not having the latest
technology available.



Microsoft dropped support for Windows 2000 last year. Since
Microsoft took this action we were forced to also drop support for
this platform. Before the .808 service pack there were no known
issues preventing its use, but it was not a
supported/tested/certified platform since the Vendor (Microsoft) was
no longer supporting it. We will always do our best to maintain
compatibility with older versions of platforms/products whenever
possible, but it is not always possible to deliver requested
functional enhancements (in this case printing performance
improvements) while doing so.



Epicor is actively looking for a way to modify the current enhanced
runtime engine by combining it with components of the previous
runtime engine to allow this to run on previous, non-supported
operating systems. This will not harness any of the new performance
enhancements and this potential workaround is not a long term
solution by any means. Any workaround will not be fully supported
and may stop functioning with future releases without prior
notification.

This is an excerpt from the most recent SP install guide



"To improve performance, a new version of Crystal Reports 11 R2 Runtime
is available on the EpicWeb web site with this service pack. The
installation file, Crystal Reports 11 R2 Runtime.msi, must be run and
installed on any machine that needs to run Crystal Reports. Please
remove the existing "Epicor Crystal Runtime" from Add/Remove Programs,
and then install the "Epicor Crystal Reports 11 R2 Runtime". Note: The
Epicor Crystal 10 development environment can still be used to modify
any standard Crystal reports and forms. Windows XP Service Pack 2 is
required for the client printing with this Crystal release. Windows 2000
is no longer supported by Microsoft. Any Windows 2000 installation
should be upgraded to XP prior to installing Crystal XI R2 Runtime."














I am in the process of following up with Microsoft to confirm that they
discontinued support for WIN2K. This is the first I've heard of it.

As far as MS dropping support last year, if Epicor did make such a
statement, then I'm afraid that they are flat out lying as I have gotten
support on a Win2K pro workstation from MS this past February.

I just found out that free support ended June 30th of 2005, but the
extended support will remain available until July 13th 2010.

Looks like Epicor got caught in a lie.

Considering that hundreds of customers have spent over $100,000 each on
average to purchase Vantage 8, I think it's a pretty sad state of
affairs.

This is the answer from Epicor:


"Listening to customers continued requests for increased speed and
efficiency of crystal reports printing from Vantage 8.0, Epicor with
the assistance of Business Objects (the makers of Crystal Reports)
enhanced the current Crystal Reports Runtime Engine using the latest
Microsoft technology that is currently only available on Windows XP
Service Pack 2 and later. The resulting product, Crystal Reports XI
Runtime R2, increases printing performance dramatically.



This enhancement was in direct response to customers concerns about
printing performance.
To utilize this new functionality the client is required to be on
Windows XP Service Pack 2. Without this operating system or an
operating system released after this, printing Crystal Reports from
Vantage will not function correctly due to not having the latest
technology available.



Microsoft dropped support for Windows 2000 last year. Since
Microsoft took this action we were forced to also drop support for
this platform. Before the .808 service pack there were no known
issues preventing its use, but it was not a
supported/tested/certified platform since the Vendor (Microsoft) was
no longer supporting it. We will always do our best to maintain
compatibility with older versions of platforms/products whenever
possible, but it is not always possible to deliver requested
functional enhancements (in this case printing performance
improvements) while doing so.



Epicor is actively looking for a way to modify the current enhanced
runtime engine by combining it with components of the previous
runtime engine to allow this to run on previous, non-supported
operating systems. This will not harness any of the new performance
enhancements and this potential workaround is not a long term
solution by any means. Any workaround will not be fully supported
and may stop functioning with future releases without prior
notification.
