This list becoming Trivial?

Britt,

I must respectfully disagree. This list is far from trivial. I too have
posted several messages to this list with questions/problems and not
received responses. Now I am on 3.X and I realize I am far behind the rest
of the group so the percentage of people who can help with 3.X specific
problems is quickly dropping. I understand this and do not get upset if I
don't receive responses. Secondly, If I was on 4 or 5 or version 6 and
didn't get a response I still wouldn't get upset or assume the list is
becoming trivial. It is possible that the members of this group may not
have had experience with that particular issue with Vantage. Thirdly, there
may be a few who have experience with that area and they are very busy or
unavailable and just don't have to time to re-read the day's posts.

When a post like the "slow day survey" get posted, it is a very general
question posed to all members, where experience with Vantage is not
paramount, just experience being employed. It is easy to generate responses
from that type of post. This group is by far, and I mean far, one of the
most helpful, meaningful, useful and friendly lists I am a member of. We
need very little policing regarding off topic posts and when they are most
people preface the posts with [OT] to let the rest know the post is not
Vantage related.

This list could charge for membership fees and it would be worth every
penny. The men and women on this list are peers, who are in the trenches
just like I am. Here at my company I am the only IT guy so anything more
technical than a paper jam and my users eyes glaze over. This list provides
three VERY useful types of support: Vantage, general IT problems, and IT
support staff. We all need peers even if were a one man show.

Stick around and have faith, you'll find this list is one of the best....

Ok…

1. My original post contained nothing about our custom programming. It
was this post that I mentioned the lack of response.
2. I have posted NUMEROUS questions in the past only to have no
response. One time I asked if someone who was on Vantage 5.x to please
do a simple test (we had just moved to 6 and I needed to know if a
particular problem was present on ver 5), and NOBODY responded!!!
3. I don’t have a problem with the survey, I was just pointing out how
trivial this list has become.

Update: The problem with the "sort order" appears to be a problem with
our Custom Programming, and not the 514 patch. We did a test on our
test server, without our custom programming, and the printing seems to
be fine. So everyone can go back to their "Quiet day survey".

I am however becoming disheartened with this list! Someone starts a
"Quite day survey" about pay vs time off, and get 18 responses, while I
post a possible problem with a Vantage patch, and only get one
response.. Auto response from someone on vacation! It has been quite a
long time since I received a valuable response from this list!

This list is loosing it's value!

This is from the change list for patch 6.0514:

AR Accounts Receivable (SCR 7410)
Issue: Get Shipments creates invoices in order of internal customer
number, not customer ID number. This is a confusing order.
Solution: Get Shipments now creates invoices in order of customer ID.
==
Now the Invoices are in REVERSE alpha-betic customer ID order, BUT the
biggest problem is that the line items are now random!!!! The line
items used to be in the order of entry, which matches the customer's

This is a NIGHTMARE for us!!! There is no easy way for our customers to

Britt,

I have to disagree with you regarding the value of this list. I posted
several questions on this list and received numerous responses. This
list is INVALUABLE. Unfortunately, since your question was on 6.00 - I
could not respond as I am not there yet. I don't beleive there are many
people who are as brave as you and jumped directly to 6.0.. Just my
two cents!!

Also, there is the part about it being the "latest patch" of 6.0. I just
went to 513 a week or two ago, and will not make another update until I see
something that we can't live without. Being Medical Device Mfg means we
have to Validate each module for each new patch and upgrade. Trust me, the
information was stored for later use, but...as for comments, I just don't
have much. On the other hand, I am actually enjoying catching the brief
answers to the question. It's nice to know what's on the minds of others
that are dealing with some of the same issues as I am. Not to make excuses
for off topic sides.

Britt,

You lack of response is caused by 1. Your way ahead of most of us.
2. Your post was a warning and did not contain a question for us to
reply to. 3. The problem was isolated to your company in the form of
custom programming. I don't see how you can blame us for not
responding. As for the survey, I think it is harmless and kind of
interesting. I'm sure the next time you post a question that we can
help you with you will change your mind about the value of the group.

Britt,

Everyone has killer days. I guess you're having a couple right now. For my
part, seems like you've always given lots of good advice to the group. And
I don't think anybody will roast you on a spit for being human and showing
the effects of pressure. Hang in there. They used to have some
BurmaShave-type signs in front of the worst rush-hour expressway on-ramp in
Akron, some years ago. Went something like this:

REMEMBER

THOSE

WHO

ARE

WHERE

YOU

HAVE

BEEN.

I think we do. I hope things look up for you.
Gary
Ok…

Britt
