Thin Client MES Licenses 10.0.700.4

We have 8 thin clients running in our shop all connecting to the same RDP server. They all run MES along with several other workstations. We have 12 MES licenses. When I view the “in use” sessions, 2 of the thin clients show up but the rest don’t. The non-thin client computer MES users are complaining that they sometimes get “no licenses available” errors. I am going to watch the sessions at clock-out time today to see if I can see what the problem is. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this or knows how the thin clients should register.

We run Zero Clients, which are basically the same thing, insure that the people logging in are actually consuming an MES license and not a standard license. We had that happen, what we ended up doing was just creating one MES user, a SHOP user, and then have them clock in and out with their employee number. This has proven to be quite easy and convienent for us. So we actually only see at most like 3 MES licenses, as we have shop, laser, and maint users for the initial login screen.

Also with thin clients they sometimes don’t log out correctly or shut down, and the Epicor licenses will remain “stuck” in the session queue. We had that happen also. We just had to ensure users logged out and we just check the session queue from time to time now to verfiy this.

Thanks for your input Aaron. When they were “stuck” did they still show as active in the session queue? Currently I have 3 “in use” and 11 “available” that have various last used times throughout today. Hmmm…wonder if they thin clients are going to sleep and freeing the license?

Yes they will still show as active. If at any point your client goes to sleep and loses networking, then that license will most likely get stuck, and once awoken it will cause it to create a new one.
