Testing Upgrade EDD - Discovery View with id: not found

I am testing an upgrade of our system from 10.2.500.26 to 10.2.700.5. Everything seems to work fine except now I get:

Instead of a pretty graph.

Is there a specific way to upgrade the EDD datasource/database?

Thanks!

There is not a way to upgrade EDD. You have to export the views from the old version of EDD and re-import. I just had a case open with Epicor on this. Unfortunately their official workaround is rebuild your active homepages.

The good news is they opened a feature enhancement last week from my ticket to add an upgrade process for EDD!

Glad to know about the “enhancement”. Also glad I checked here before trying things multiple times.

I spent a couple days messing around with it. Tried every which way to get it to work. Only to get on a call with Epicor support and them to say “There isn’t an update process but we’ve opened an enhancement request”.

This blows my mind. How do they do it in the cloud? We’re on prem, so we can control upgrades, but it sounds like a lot of work for the upgrade process for anybody that is SaaS.

That’s a good question. I also can’t believe they didn’t have a ticket open for this. EDD isn’t that new… I was rather speechless on the support call. Rather disappointed in EDD too.

We had this issue and worked with Epicor Professional Services on a resolve. I’m getting my notes and will forward you what we did to handle it. It involved making a backup of our previous version of Data Discovery before the upgrade and then pointing the new admin setup to that version in order to see the custom views our users had developed. We had about a hundred views we thought we lost a few months ago when we upgraded to 10.2.600.6 but we were able to restore them by pointing to that backup.

That would be great! As Epicor support said not possible

I understand. My heart stopped when we thought we had lost all those user views. After months and months of training them to use it and trust it. I’ve asked our network admin to forward me the setup he was given. As soon as I have it, I will post.

From our network admin…The solution was to physically go to the location of where the data discovery folders are located within the Epicor folders. Delete all existing versions of data Discovery. Go into sql and either rename or delete the data discovery database (I would suggest renaming until confirmed it works). Then create a new and deploy. Basically what the problem was is it doesn’t correctly overwrite an existing data discovery database and folder of the same name, so it has to be wiped out manually.

The new deployment of EDD would have a new database though. So did they then import the views or something?

We didn’t have to. That restored them. I asked the same thing but it worked.

But you still had to rebuild your active homepage, right? Because the GUID changes on import. That’s the issue here. I was able to restore the EDD views and dashboards. But the active homepage stores a static GUID of the view. So until you edit your active homepage and relink to the view you get the error that @Doug.C is getting.

I feel there has to be something missing in that process. Otherwise I’d think you’d end up with the stock (new) EDD install.

There is… you have to export the views before you blast away the old install.

I didn’t see that step in @karabryan’s list. Unless that is understood as part of the deploy section.

Actually, we didn’t have to rebuild our homepages. I’m in training today and can try to get you more specific details but after we did this, everything was back to the pre-upgrade functionality.

I’ve written a SQL query that allows me to update the XML in the database to use the correct (imported) IDs. I don’t know what I would do with the production database, but it’s easy in the test database…

Exactly, we also got the same issue when upgrading from 10.2.500 to 600, there we lost those views, but luckily there were “easy” to re-do by the functional consultant, then from 600 to 700 we got the same issue and there we created a CASE with Epicor support just to end up with the same solution proposed to you: Export and Re-Import after upgrade.

However, what I did notice was that not Deploying the extension as part of the upgrade steps, allowed us to see those views in the Kinetic Homepage correctly, it was until you deploy the new extension that the DB is overwritten and you lose them all.

The upgrade was in our partners demo server, which I would say it’s not that critical, however, for a Customer’s upgrade, I do not like to have additional “Pre” and “Post” upgrade steps to fix EDD.

Hope Epicor finds a solution for this on next versions.
