Terminal Server Active OCX Error

Bill,

My network engineer just came up with that same idea. Thanks for
confirming!

Rebecca/Nancy,

I use Group Policy to run a logoff script for my Terminal Server users. The
logoff script runs a batch file to delete files in the specific users
vantage working directory. I created seperate vantage working folders for
each TS user. Also, have in the login script for local users to del files
in their vantage working dir on their local PC. Works pretty well in
keeping the working dir clean.

My 2 cents.

Bill

This is not an elegant solution but here's what we do. We created a task that reboots the terminal server each morning at 4:00 a.m. and it's no longer an issue for us. Probably not the correct solution but it works for now and it allowed me to move on to the other zillion and 6 projects on my list.

I had this same error.
I ran the unregocx.bat file thats in your Vantage directory. Then I went through the registery and found every reference to any old vantage servers or installations. I removed all of them and then reinstalled the client. Never had the problem again.

Of course, you should do a backup before and be very carefull. Editing the registry can kill your server.

I put in a new server with Win2K3 on it have never seen the error.
Sounds like it is a registry problem - probably referencing old mapped
drives - server path.

This it what works for me, with my Window 2000 server.
(I have the temporary work files for Vantage on my Citrix/Terminal
Services server.)
When the remote users get this error, I have everyone close Vantage and
I delete all of the temporary files in each of the user's folders. They
then login okay.

To keep from getting the errors I clear the temporary files before the
users in Mexico get into the office, or when they aren't in Vantage.
This seems to work without rebooting all the time.
This works for me because I have so few TS users, and it only takes me a
few minutes each day to keep things clear.

Rebecca/Nancy,

I use Group Policy to run a logoff script for my Terminal Server
users. The logoff script runs a batch file to delete files in the
specific users vantage working directory. I created seperate
vantage working folders for each TS user. Also, have in the login
script for local users to del files in their vantage working dir on
their local PC. Works pretty well in keeping the working dir clean.

My 2 cents.

Bill
