Temp Employees and Data Collection

Hi,

This is what we do and it works just fine. We assign them a number like
T120 and just put their name in. You don't need an address or any other
info unless you prefer to add this. This will allow you to capture their
daily labor.

Is anyone using data collection for temporary employees? It looks
like I could use the shop employee portion of job managemnt to enter
temporary employees without feeding hours to payroll.

Is anyone else doing it this way? Any horror stories or pitfalls to
avoid?

We have employee codes T1 thru T25 that are asigned to temps, one block for day shift and another for evening shift. They use the same code for the duration of their assignment or until they are hired perm and get their own. The production supervisors keep a log of who was assigned which code while they were here and I beleive the code is also written on their temp agency time sheet in case we ever need to look up their clockings in LaborDetail. Our payroll reports, that we use to enter into Paychex, ignore codes starting with T.

If you are using Vantage payroll, can't you just set the shop employee
not to feed payroll?

Due to our recent strike we brought in sca. temps. We addressed this by
setting up Generic Employees in Employee Master. In the place of the
employee name we entered the Temporary agency. We entered the temps name in
the Emergency contact field. We have a single swipe clock in and gave the
Supervisors a stack of "generic cards" all of them active and all of them
marked as temp. The Supervisor would pull an active generic Card for the
Temp to swipe in on, the Supervisor would write the employee name on the
card with a SHARPIE (important). He would then enter the temps name into
the emergency contact field and enter a memo that the card was issued to
"who ever" on what ever day. When the temp was termed the "expended" card
would be given to our accounting person who would clear the emergency
contact field, enter a memo that the temp was termed, wipe the name off with
a bit of alcohol and reissue the card. We added the emergency contact name
to the payroll reports (RB) and triggered it to turn off and on depending on
the "dept" (temporary). Then did every thing normal. It worked really
well

We have done that in the past. It was very helpful when the temp agency's
bill came in. It was also useful in tracking who was working here at any
given time.

Pitfalls:
Their employee ID's will be there forever, although you can mark them as
terminated. You might want to use a ZZ prefix to their ID to get them in
one location at the end of your list.

Pay attention to how they are costed out when you set them up. You might
want special operations with work centers associated with them that contain
a different burden rate than your existing work centers.
