Last weekend we moved into a new facility, and other that
some small issues, everything went very well, and we were
up and running Monday am. One advanatage of this new
building, is that it is connected to our main plant with
fiber - No More T1!!!!!!

Now, users are starting to complain that login time is
extremely slow, and so is printing forms like POs,
Order Acknowledgements, etc.

No configurations were changed on the Vantage server,
and the switches are not showing any error conditions, so
it's not our connection (Word, Excel, other apps work fine)

I'm not sure where to start looking. Any help would
be greatly appreciated. I'd like to be able to solve this one
before I leave for vacation if possible. Thanks.

Tim,
Other then changing to Fiber, has anything else changed. New PC's, hubs, or
software?

No hardware changes. We did some IP Subnet changes
so our 2 buildings are on the same numbering scheme.
The switches we are using are HP 4000s, and were in
use before, we just connected them with Gigabit ethernet
adapters. Speed is great for everything else, just some
small Vantage issues.

I have seen a similar problem that occurred on a WINNT client. My Domain
Controllers are WINNT 4.0 SP5. I had a hard disk replaced on a client
machine and the vendor installed WINNT SP6a on it. Vantage was terribly slow
on this machine until I removed the SP and brought it to SP5. Now it is
fine. I do not know what OS you have but thought I would mention it.

Well Tim, I'm not an expert on network communications. Changing the IP
subnet, makes me wander about unnecessary routing that was needed
previously. Or maybe not everything was changed correctly. So the PC's are
having problems finding the Vantage server. Is Vantage on a server by its
self?

I've watch all of the traffic here on the 5.0, the good, the bad, the ugly.
I've re-read all the bug lists, the problems, the issues. I've scoured the
EraNet. Performed two test installs going from 3.0 to 5.0, and gone to
orientation seminars. I've read the install manuals 20 times. I've got my
backups done, users warned. Disks ready. Licence codes current. I'm
pumped, I'm primed, I'm ready to do this. Co-workers are saying I've been
walking around for days mumbling "No Fear", "No, Fear".

Tomorrow we upgrade.

We replaced the Switch to Router to T1 connection on each end
with Switch to Fiber to Switch. Went around and checked all
IP addresses, subnet masks, and gateway assignments for all of
the PCs that previously were accessing Vantage across the T1.
And we pulled the plug on the router that used to serve the remote
building.

But, we are experiencing the problem with some of the machines that
were not changed as well. (Used to be local to the Vantage server, and
not accessed over the T1). All Progress statistics look ok, buffer hits,
etc.,

I don't really have any other suggestions. Is there anything different about
your Vantage server? I just went around to my PCs and disabled the Master
Browser on them to cut network traffic. Some of the older ones that had
Print & File Sharing set had the Master Browser set to Automatic.

Hi Folks,

VISUAL: Dr Frankenstien in his tower (maniacal screams) "!!! IT'S ALIVE,

Install went fine, usual panic stricken users this morning, sweaty hands
from hand holding, but we are running. I've corrected several custom report
builder reports but they still won't run from the Vanatage menu. I get the
message (unable to open convmap file 'e:\epic50\progress\convmap.cp)
ERANET was not helpful. Has anyone ecountered this before when running

Hi Folks,

VISUAL: Dr Frankenstien in his tower (maniacal screams) "!!! IT'S ALIVE,
IT'S ALIVE"

Install went fine, usual panic stricken users this morning, sweaty hands
from hand holding, but we are running. I've corrected several custom report
builder reports but they still won't run from the Vanatage menu. I get the
message (unable to open convmap file 'e:\epic50\progress\convmap.cp)
ERANET was not helpful. Has anyone ecountered this before when running
custom reports in 50

I got that EXACT error this morning on one of our users (V4). This
users has a laptop, and was getting Prowin32 errors several times a day,
so Friday I just removed Progress from his laptop, and set him up on our
Citrix server... but I forgot to remove the Vantage Icon. This morning
he went into Vantage using the old Icon (not thru Citrix) and he
actually got in, but when he tried to run a report he got your error.
I had him go in via the Citrix Icon, and everything works fine!

So, it seems to me it is a problem with your installation of
Progress.... did you un-install the Progress 9.0B first???

I talked to tech support and they sent me the followig:

Summary: RB, unable to open convmap with custom report links
Book: Support Solutions
Page: 1229MPS
XA 5.00
Problem: Opening custom report links in Vantage generates error: unable to
open convmap
Resolution: Vantage 5.00 no longer uses the registry to connect to report
builder
1.) Open the report builder.vtg and edit the "other parameters" line it
should look like this, with reference to the proper mapped drive and server:
[Vantage Startup]
Executable=V:\Progress\bin\prorb32.exe
Database=V:\Vantage\db\vantage
IniFile=V:\Vantage\Vantage.ini
ParameterFile=V:\Vantage\db\Vantage.pf
ConnectOptions=-N TCP -H mntech -S epic50
TempDirectory=C:\Vntg50
StartupProcedure=
OtherParameters=
Note: the 'OtherParameters=' line is blanked out
Apparently this causes no problem with the database engine because it uses
the registry so. You will also need to edit the progress\Bin\progress.ini
to reference the mapped drive path instead of the physical drive path. The
startup section should look something like this:
[Startup]
V6Display=no
;ImmediateDisplay=yes
;MultitaskingInterval=100
DefaultFont=MS Sans Serif, size=8
DefaultFixedFont=Courier New, size=8
DLC=V:\progress
Use-3D-Size=Yes
PROBUILD=V:\progress\PROBUILD
PROPATH=.,V:\progress\gui,V:\progress,V:\progress\bin,V:\progress\PROBUILD\E
UCAPP\EUC.PL,V:\progress\PROBUILD\EUCAPP
UseSourceEditor=yes
EditorConfigPath=V:\prowork\proedit
Where V is a mapped drive.
XA 5.00

Now I get the SQL data base shut down error. Im going to try and reinstall
Vantage on my workstation and see what that gets me.

!!!GOT IT!!. I'm going to need to reinstall the client on the workstation.
Once that was done RB reports work fine.
