System won't boot up

Funny now but I didnt think it was funny when the thing was acting like an
out of control bottle rocket. Actually, this happened 3 times in the space
of 15 minutes, ( I had bought a batch of 5) they were out out of warrenty,
and really stunk up the house.

Ha-ha, sorry to laugh, but that's funny, cause that exact same thing
happened to me as well. A spark from the motherboard (with no power
connection) flew into my face cutting my cheek wide open. The motherboard
responsible - Matsonic (another to the list); MSI is another I've had very
poor luck with.

I think we should all get together and make a new horror film called "When
Motherboards Attack"

Doo Doo, Doo Doo, Doo Doo, Doo Doo

But just thought I'd comment on that since you're not the only one to get
screwed by paying less for something and not get the quality to come with
it.

Ah ACER hardware, awful stuff. Look on the back of your power supply, if
there is a little power switch there turn it off, count to ten then turn
it
on again. If there is no switch, pull the power plug count to ten then
try
again. I've had many Acers do this, among other bizarre behavior from
their
components, I've added them to my never again list along with Soyo, FIC
(motherboards litterally burst into flames in my face)

I have an old acer aspire and for some reason it doesn't want to boot
up. The drive spins up, the fan on the power supply is blowing but
that is it. There are no lights lit on the front of the unit. What
does that mean? It seams as though there is power missing
somewhere. HElp!!

Does it beep several times as it starts? Sometimes the POST beep codes can
be very handy for determining the cause. Listen for how many long/short
beeps (if any) and lookup on web (search something like "power up POST

I have had this problem before, The drive spins all fans start, but nothing
else.

I swapped the power supply and it worked.

Also try and reset the CMOS. That worked for me once. There should be a
jumper or button on the motherboard that does that. Make sure you note the
hard drive information before you put the case back on, because you may have
to re-enter the it.

No beeps, it sounds like a bad motherboard or CPU. Take out all the cards

Usually its near the CMOS battery or where the power supply connects to the
MB. Check the manufacturer's website as well. They usually have old manuals

Look on the back of your power supply, if
there is a little power switch there turn it off, count to ten then turn it
on again. If there is no switch, pull the power plug count to ten then try
again. I've had many Acers do this, among other bizarre behavior from their
components, I've added them to my never again list along with Soyo, FIC
(motherboards litterally burst into flames in my face)

I have an old acer aspire and for some reason it doesn't want to boot
up. The drive spins up, the fan on the power supply is blowing but
that is it. There are no lights lit on the front of the unit. What
does that mean? It seams as though there is power missing
somewhere. HElp!!

You can also just remove the battery for about 30 seconds.

Usually its near the CMOS battery or where the power supply connects to the
MB. Check the manufacturer's website as well. They usually have old manuals
online somewhere.
