System Agent Tasks

A slightly easier way is to:

1. Start the test Database under Databases in PET.
2. Start ONLY the main appserver (ours is MFGTest803).
3. Open the test company and change the System Agent settings (ours is 0 to 2).
4. Save the System Agent settings.
5. Start the ProcessServer and TaskAgent appservers.

To all those who have taken the plunge- did you purchase the Data Migration Tool? I realize that it doesn't replace Service Connect, but if I can get away from having to generate workflows for E9 upload for my next company launch, it would be great. For things like bills of materials and operation sets (method of manufacturing), did you have any problems?
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

I've used it extensively albeit on v8.0.4xx and it's perfect for Part Master uploads, BOMs, BOOs, Stock and Cost Adjustments and the list goes on. I would say it's superior to Service Connect for such one-off type operations.

Metalworks loves the DMT!

We are implementing 9.05.600 and did our entire data conversion on it. Because it uses the Engineering Workbench it may take a little longer to process (we don't know much about building service connect workflows yet), it was better than sending our data off blindly hoping the conversion is a good one. We processed tens of thousands of parts through it already from our legacy system.

It promises to be great for quick mass updates and changes also. We are very happy with it.

Is the DMT a module that needs purchasing? Or does it come with 9?

We are using the data migration tool for our E9 implementation. Documentation and help for DMT is sorely lacking!!! However, it still has proven worthwhile to put the control in our hands. There have been some occasion where the DMT allows you to upload data that the interface would not have allowed (e.g., part phantom bom = true with non-stock item = false, or PartDetail checkboxes, not matching PartPlant checkboxes). However, we are learning epicor at the same time as DMT, so I would assume that it would be easier for someone who already has good knowledge of ins and outs of epicor.

We found that we were having to go back and tweak and tweak data to hand back over for epicor to upload and it is much better to have control ourselves.

I am thinking it is an item purchased separately, not sure.

Another question:

We recently copied over our Live database to Test in order to do some practice transactions. However, when we try to run any reports, the systems schedules them as "Immediate Run", but never previews or prints them. They sit in Scheduled Tasks in System Monitor and Immediate Run in System Agent.

I went into System Agent Maintenance to see if there was any difference in the set up. There were no differences, but under Schedules were all the reports we had tried to unsuccessfully run.

Has anyone else had this happen, or know what happened?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

You will need to edit your system agent to point to the correct appserver ports.

Here's the relevant stuff from the Vantage support site (Answerbook 4473ESC):

4. Once you have done the restore. Start the Database and the first App Server.

5. Double click on the icon for Vantage 8.03 > System Management > Utilities > System Agent

A) In the upper right hand corner of the System Agent screen will be displayed the "Status" of the Task Agent. This should show "Started".

B) Under the Task AppServer section, make sure the AppServer URL field is pointing to the correct port as setup in the Progress Explorer Tool for the Mfgsys803TaskAgent.
Typically for the Mfgsys803 database this entry should look like: AppServerDC://localhost:8303.
For the MfgTrain803 database it should be: AppServerDC://localhost:8313.
For the MfgTest803 database it should be: AppServerDC://localhost:8323.
For the MfgPilot803 database it should be: AppServerDC://localhost:8333

C) Under the System AppServer section, make sure the AppServer URL field is pointing to the correct port as setup in the Progress Explorer Tool for the Mfgsys803 AppServer.
Typically for the Mfgsys803 database this entry should look like: AppServerDC://localhost:8301.
For the MfgTrain803 database it should be: AppServerDC://localhost:8311.
For the MfgTest803 database it should be: AppServerDC://localhost:8321.
For the MfgPilot803 database it should be: AppServerDC://localhost:8331

[irrelevant stuff skipped]

F) If changes were made to the screen, save the changes and exit out of the 8.03 Session. Go to the Progress Explorer Tool, and stop both the Mfgsys803ProcessServer and Mfgsys803TaskAgent. When the AppServers show a status of Not Running, start each AppServer. Check the Status; the Broker Status should be Active.

When you copied your live system to Test, it maintained the task agent app server settings. You need to go under utilities/system agent and change your app server settings to point to your true test app server. Restart your appservers and your task agent will run
Â
You can tell this because if you go into your task agent you will see that the "connection id" field is blank. Even though the task agent shows as started if the connection id is blank it means it did not communicate with the right app server

One thing I would add to the other replies is to rename your company on the test database so there is no confusion on which database you are in.

I put ***TEST*** in front of each of the company names when I do a database copy to avoid confusion. :-)
