System Agent Task Stuck in ACTIVE - NULL Issue?

Does anyone know what would once in a blue moon cause the SysTask record to have EnteredOn to be NULL - which causes the report to basically sit in ACTIVE…

Assuming the Agent uses the EnteredOn as a time to poll tasks it should work on… it being NULL leaves it hanging in ACTIVE… No errors in logs found.

Its stuck and it happens often and I cant seem to isolate the cause… I can run it again and it works… but tomorrow there will be a time it will fail again… SSRS is running, SQL is running.

If i look into the ReportServerTempDB – the issue carries over… I just cant explain why - once in a blue moon and then you hit print preview again; and it works. Magic.

SnapshotDataID Column is Null

yet a Snapshot exists in SnapshotData.

What version of 10 are you on?

This kinda sounds like a time out issue in the Report Server. Look at your logs on your database and see if anything funny is going on. Look at the Web.config as well.

Another suggestion:

Have you tried upgrading to the latest stable release, 10.1.500.14? If not I would upgrade to .500 and delete the old Task Agent and create a new Task Agent in the new Epicor Administration Console > Task Agent Configuration.

I would do this in a Sand Box setting to make sure none of customs, BPM’s and reports are adversely affected by the release.

1.10.500.18 - I looked at every log possible, everything seems to run just fine according to the logs, yet looking at the SQL as you see above, obviously something didn’t run right. It could be a deadlock issue, I enabled Deadlock Tracing Flags so next time I can perhaps see If that was the cause.

I also found a 10.1.400 Task Agent Service running - yet it didnt have any configuration - Perhaps somehow magically it picked up that task. But all of that are assumptions at this time.

You can have up to 3 task agents running per server, rule of three. You should uninstall the old task agent. There’s no reason to have it unless you’re running a .400 db.

I did, I removed it… But my User Load was literally 1 user =) with 1 Task Agent… I can replicate it by chance a few times a day. =) confusing Where is @aidacra hiding =)

I created Support case CS0000480351 for this issue under your name. Let’s get to the bottom of it

Sorry to intrude on this thread but I just had to comment that that is probably one of the MOST adorable kitten images I’ve ever seen in my life!

Nathan - I appreciate you making a CASE for me. I might be a bit delayed responding. But I believe I found the cause and I have not confirmed yet if this is a Epicor Bug or a Self-Inflicted Miss!

When we had Task Agent 10.1.400 and we upgraded to 10.1.500 - We simply overwrote to the location and the “services.msc” will show 10.1.500 is running and the folder got renamed to 10.1.500 – but if I look inside of the folder - it looks like its the DLLs and Files from 400!

Dont let the “500” fool you - behind the curtains its a secret agent called 400 still…

Obviously cant be 500 since in 2016 July - it was 400!
