Progress 9.1C's ODBC setup is MUCH more reliable, according to every
progress developer that has answered any ODBC questions on the Progress
Email Group. You can also secure ODBC down to the individual table in
Progress 9.1C. (vantage 5 runs on 9.1A, 5.1 runs on 9.1C)
Whenever I've posted questions to the Progress API and SQL92 lists, and tell
them i'm running 9.1A, the first thing they ask is why I'm not using
Progress 9.1C yet.
Because of this, we'll probably jump to 5.1, because we are in need of a
stable, secure ODBC connection. Unfortunately, my test server (COMPAQ
Workstation) has a corrupted video display, so I can't interact with the
machine, and therefore haven't tested 5.1 yet. However, barring any major
issues with 5.1 (and I haven't heard of even any minor 5.1 issues, except
for the inventory one that was fixed), we'll probably jump to 5.1 instead
of 5.
I'll definitely do a test upgrade though, once I get my new test server /
client in a couple of weeks (Gateway 1GHZ Laptop, 512.... 15TFT, the
works....)
God Bless,
Thaddeus

Subject: [Vantage] Switching to 5.1
I haven't heard anything bad about Vantage 5.1 (except the inventory relieve
problem fixed with the first patch.)
Who has already switched? Who is planning to real soon? I think I'll
switch Entek from 5.0 to 5.1 either this weekend or the next, barring any
bad reports from the list.
