Subreport - linking

If you are worried about duplicate data, you can usually sort that out in Crystal by using Report > Select Expert and using a formula.

E.g. if all of your data was in part number order, you could have a formula that says...

{Part.Number} <> previous({Part.Number})

This will only show unique part numbers.

No separate BAQs. I need data from different tables but with similar keys.
To add the 2nd Baq tables to my first will give me multiple records because
my links are one to many.
I am trying to create a new version of the Quote worksheet. My first BAQ
has QuoteHed, QuoteDtl, and QuoteOpr. I am user QuoteOpr on detail and
calling my Subreport (QuoteDtl and QuoteMtl) when the line / assembly
change.

Does this approach sound reasonable?

It sounds like you didn't link the master to the sub correctly.

Right click on the subreport and choose "Change Subreport Links". Make sure
your Param fields in the master are linked to the Param fields in the sub.

Wait.. how are you getting 2 BAQs to fire off for one report? Or are you
accessing a BAQ resultset that's been dumped via the BAQ Export Process?

Or, as an option, what I've done in the past is create the "2nd BAQ" and
then use the BAQ Export Process to run the BAQ hourly/daily/whenever and
dump it to XML in your MFGSYSDATA\REPORTS folder. Then have the subreport
hit that dumped dataset. Assuming that an hourly refresh of the data is
good enough for your needs.

You can have more than 1 BAQ in a Crystal report if you do it thru a dashboard. You link the data in Crystal. I've also been able to make Crystal reports to export to Excel that contain data from multiple BAQs as long as I do it thru a dashboard. Works great!

willing to try it. However you have mentioned some terms I am not familiar

BAQ Export Process - How / where do I set this up?

"Have the subreport hit that dumped dataset" - how do I set this up?

Or, as an option, what I've done in the past is create the "2nd BAQ" and
then use the BAQ Export Process to run the BAQ hourly/daily/whenever and
dump it to XML in your MFGSYSDATA\REPORTS folder. Then have the subreport
hit that dumped dataset. Assuming that an hourly refresh of the data is
good enough for your needs.

No you are not missing something... I am. Didn't realize I had to have
only 1 BAQ, I will try to figure out how I can put all of the tables in the
same BAQ and pull out the data without duplicates.

Regarding the BAQ Export Process... Create your BAQ. Then go into System
Mgmt --> Utilities and "Business Activity Query Export Process" is there.
Select your BAQ that you created and Output format (CSV/XML) and then
Schedule it. Get into System Agent to create a schedule if you need one..
You can have it fire off daily, hourly or at any Interval you want. The
format for Interval is hhhmmss. For example, once every 10 minutes would be
0001000.

Then this file gets dumped to whatever user's Report folder. I usually
schedule mine using Manager and you can share the Manager's report folder on
the server and make it read-only for all users. Then just point your
subreport to \\vantage_server\your_share_name\my_dumped_BAQ.xml
<file:///\\vantage_server\your_share_name\my_dumped_BAQ.xml>

Have you ever tried to capture the print or print preview button click when printing a BAQ report? You might be able to get the XML dumped before the report is generated. Just a thought.

I ran the Business Activity Query Export Process with Now and I do see the
XML file in my folder. So this works.

To point my subreport to this file I:

Opened the subreport

Clicked on Database

Clicked on Set Datasource Location

Expanded Create New Connection

Clicked on ADO,Net

Found my XML and pressed Finish

Clicked on Close

Opened my Main Crystal Report

Right clicked on the subreport

Clicked on RE-Import subreport

Saved the report

Ran the report

I am still getting the "Enter Parameter Values" screen.

Did I point the subreport to the new xml file correctly?

Mike

Regarding the BAQ Export Process... Create your BAQ. Then go into System
Mgmt --> Utilities and "Business Activity Query Export Process" is there.
Select your BAQ that you created and Output format (CSV/XML) and then
Schedule it. Get into System Agent to create a schedule if you need one..
You can have it fire off daily, hourly or at any Interval you want. The

Then this file gets dumped to whatever user's Report folder. I usually
schedule mine using Manager and you can share the Manager's report folder on
the server and make it read-only for all users. Then just point your
subreport to \\vantage_server\your_share_name\my_dumped_BAQ.xml

It sounds like you pointed correctly, but I'm still thinking your subreport
links are not mapped correctly. If you want, save the report with data and
email it to me directly and I can take a quick look. It may not be tonight,
but I'll look in the AM. It's beer-o'clock on the east coast. :-)

I ran the Business Activity Query Export Process with Now and I do see the
XML file in my folder. So this works.

To point my subreport to this file I:

Opened the subreport

Clicked on Database

Clicked on Set Datasource Location

Expanded Create New Connection

Clicked on ADO,Net

Found my XML and pressed Finish

Clicked on Close

Opened my Main Crystal Report

Right clicked on the subreport

Clicked on RE-Import subreport

Saved the report

Ran the report

I am still getting the "Enter Parameter Values" screen.

Did I point the subreport to the new xml file correctly?

Hi

Is it not possible to bring the two BAQs into a dahboard linked together and create a dashboard report instead?

I have never come across a way where you can have two BAQs in one report, unless you schedule them both to run at a certain time and then use something like Logicity to display the report several minutes afterwards?

Thanks.

Â
Wait.. how are you getting 2 BAQs to fire off for one report? Or are you
accessing a BAQ resultset that's been dumped via the BAQ Export Process?

No separate BAQs. I need data from different tables but with similar keys.
To add the 2nd Baq tables to my first will give me multiple records because
my links are one to many.
I am trying to create a new version of the Quote worksheet. My first BAQ
has QuoteHed, QuoteDtl, and QuoteOpr. I am user QuoteOpr on detail and
calling my Subreport (QuoteDtl and QuoteMtl) when the line / assembly
change.

Does this approach sound reasonable?

You made sure that both the master and sub are both coming from the same BAQ
right?
