Subcontracting - Change Job Suggestions

Hello,

I am the Subcontract buyer for my company. I am wondering if Epicor has a “Change Job Suggestions” functionality that is similar to “Change PO Suggestions,” for purchased parts. Does anyone know if Epicor has something like this?

Up until this point I have been using the “Planning Workbench” screen in Epicor. It indicates the job and in the description will state either “Postpone Job,” or “Expedite Job,” along with additional details like “earliest due date is 6/15/2023.” I thought this was exactly what was I looking for until I came upon when job for a part that we are below safety stock on. Epicor is suggesting I postpone this job to a date when we will be out of parts. We have safety stock on this part and are currently below that number - I was expecting to see an “Expedite Job” request in Planning Workbench but that is not the case. Now I am wondering if I can trust the Planning Workbench screen to serve as a “Change Job Suggestions” screen.

I hope this makes sense and thank you in advance!

Hi Lucas, it sounds like you are in the right spot. Understanding the MRP job suggestions is not always an easy task. It may help to look at the time phase screen to see the whole picture for that part. Sometimes there are multiple job suggestions that need to be looked at together. For example there may be a second suggestion to increase quantity on a different job and that is causing the postpone suggestion you are seeing. There is a tech guide for MRP and many parameters to shape the resulting new and change suggestions. Brad

Hi Brad,

Thank you for your response. I have found it somewhat difficult to understand MRP job suggestions.

Would you know where I can find the “tech guide for MRP and many parameters to shape the resulting new and change suggestions?”

There is the Classic MRP Technical Reference Guide, and there is the Kinetic MRP User Guide. Both are available on EpicWeb under the Documentation heading.

The Kinetic MRP User Guide is based on the Kinetic screens and the MRP Tech Ref is based on the Classic screens, but the Tech Ref Guide is vastly more in-depth.

I was able to locate the MRP Tech Ref and you are right is 254 pages of in-depth!

Would you know where I can find the Kinetic MRP User guide, assuming that it is less in-depth?

Thank you!

Under that same Documentation heading, select User Guides and scroll down.
