We are looking to switch from std to avg costing, but just wanted a bit of advice on how (and where) the average cost for subcontracted parts are created and stored.
We are running reports to look at the average costs on the system for all parts now, but cannot see any costs anywhere for average subcontract costs in the PartCost table. Where would this be stored?
I have looked at PartCost.AvgSubContCost but all are zero for any subcontract parts.
To change your costing method, you need to zero out all your inventory QTY Adj (or the parts you want to change), then update the costing method to Avg and finally bring all your inventory back. So definitely not an easy task with a live environment, but is doable.
The avg cost it is stored at the PartCost Table as AvgSubCont, this will only populate under two premises: You receive a SubContract Item or you do a cost adjustment, sounds like this last option is what you need to do if you are migrating from std.
Yes I am dreading doing the qty adj to switch over costing methods, will have to be an out of hours job!
So we would need to to a Cost Adjustment for these to populate as average cost? Then I assume it will populate and update when the parts are set to avg costing, and we receipt in?
Then your next receipt will blend with that inventory on hand and your adjusted cost.
I’ll suggest to support the adjustment with a supplier quote… if this is to much (likely) you can query your last cost and just use it as your starting point.
Just curious why you’re looking at the change?
I’ve some experience with sites using either Std, Avg or some combination of the two.
Seems to me that getting estimates and actuals can be “interesting” either way.
With all the recent price fluctuations guessing it’s even moreso… especially with some capitol equipment and long build times?
