I worked for years up through Vantage 6.15 or so and in there it was easy to change the color of the header bar, etc. We always kept a test database that was at most a week old copy of our live database so people could experiment. I would make the color scheme for the test database green rather than blue so that it was obvious which database you were in.

I'm now implementing Epicor 9.05.700b at a new company and want to make the same kind of color changes but it's not too clear how to do it. I know it's in stylings somewhere but it's not very intuitive. One of the Epicor consultants even sat down to show me how easily it could be done but even he could not remember how.

Anyone out there figure it out?

Greg
Options > Styling > Runtime Styler.

Hover over the area you want to change and a popup menu appears. press the letter of the area you want to change.

A new panel will open where you can change the colors.

Save when finished.

Then use Options > Theme maintenance to bring up your saved style and check distributable, save. The under actions click Make Theme Default.

I have to reset default, each time I copy database. I know I have seen discussion on how to invoke styling by code, but I have never done it.

Thanks, I think this is what I was looking for but I'm still a bit confused.

I got to Runtime Styler, hovered and got the popup menu and the new EpiResources panel. Not sure where to go from here. There are so many things to choose. I just want to change the color of the top and bottom bars on the screen. Do I have to create a new active styleset first? I also don't see how to save any changes?

Yes, I got the pdf. I actually already had it in the application manual and I'm sure it covers anything and everything there is to know about Styling and Themes. It's 38 pages long and I'm not interested in becoming an expert just to change a color.

Greg, I have a style file that does this, included below. Adds a bright
orange background to test database toolbar & status bar. It's not
perfect, also grays out some of the read only controls, but works well
enough - it's a bright! orange. Implemented by customizing the client
test.mfgsys file, there's a setting somewhere in it for a default style
file.

easy to change the color of the header bar, etc. We always kept a test
database that was at most a week old copy of our live database so people
could experiment. I would make the color scheme for the test database
green rather than blue so that it was obvious which database you were
in.

I know it's in stylings somewhere but it's not very intuitive. One of
the Epicor consultants even sat down to show me how easily it could be
done but even he could not remember how.

I used the easy example of clicking on the status bar and changing it to a different color. Looks great on my PC, but in our training room and some of the desktops it looks terrible on customized forms - throws big black blobs around things (at least they aren't where data elements are). We are all on Win 7 so it's not an XP vs. Win7 issue. I really wish it was as easy as you hoped!
