Speed of Epicor 10.0.700.4

We haven’t run that yet.  Currently, we only have our Corporate office running E10 so we only have a few users accessing.  As we bring our first Manufacturing online, which will be in the same database I’m sure we will be fine tuning.  As an aside, performance so far between 9.05 and 10 seem to be about the same.

Good luck with yours as well!

Mike

Hi Mike,

We're using Windows Server 2012 R2 - Hyper-V, I think we are going to run the performance tool like Jose recommended above.  Did you guys run that?  Is there anything you tweaked on your servers that I could take a look at.  Good luck with your rollout!

Hello,

We just upgraded from Epicor 9.04.506b to 10.0.700.4 and had some questions about the speed of our system.

1. We were on Progress and have moved to SQL

2. We now have separate VM servers (same host).. one for SQL and one for the Epicor App

3. The SQL server has 64GB of RAM and is on SSDs (RAID10) with 20 Virtual Processors

4. The APP server has 32GB of RAM and is on SSDs (RAID10) with 16 Virtual Processors

In Epicor 10 it can take 10-15 seconds to add a line to a quote where in Epicor 9 it was about 3 seconds.  Our reporting is WAY faster in Epicor 10, but all of the entry screens (Sales Order Entry, Quote Entry, Engineering Workbench, etc.) just doesn't seem to be as fast.  It most places, it's noticeably slower than Epicor 9.

Are there settings I can tweak?  Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks for help!

Jimmy

E10 should not be slower than your 9....(at least not once the services are initialized).... Something may be funky with your setup. Have you run the server diagnostics / performance tool?

I’m curious, what hypervisor are you using?  We’re using VMware ESXi.  We just went live last night converting from 9.05 on Progress to 10.0.700.4.  Haven’t noticed a significant slowdown yet but the day is young…

Jose is right, there shouldn't be a decrease in speed.  We are running the recommended 200 user load w/ SSDs from Epicor's hardware sizing guide for both DB and App.  New line on quote/order are less than a second. I do notice a hang up here and there that seems to go away on its own but overall its much faster.
Thanks duckorz.. what did you guys do to ensure that your speed was better?  Any tweaks you would recommend?

Thanks,
Jimmy
No I haven't, where can I get that?  Epicweb?

On our go live weekend (just before 7/1) we hit a wall when we started adding lots of people to set up jobs and such for Monday.  Made an emergency call to Epicor to get a performance expert.  There were a number of timeout and other settings that had to be tweaked but it made a huge difference.  Another big “fix” I did at his suggestion was to move the log files for the DB to another drive.  Made a huge difference in I/O performance.  Also made sure to turn off the virtual NICs on the VMs.

One thing for users at first was convincing them that, yes, they would see the spinning wheel for a few seconds when they loaded a screen for the first time but then things would be faster.  Also they were not used to some of the auto-saves so saw the wheel for a second or two not realizing what was going on.  Overall there have been remarkably few performance gripes but we were coming from a combo of Vantage 6.1 and a cloud based ERP system.
