Slowness in some trackers

---Update---

I eliminated the reference to the old Vantage server in the hosts
file. Still no change in performance.

However, the mention of the server name prompted me to poke around in
the registry a bit more. Before, I had been serching for and clearing
out/deleting registry entries for the mapped drive paths. When I
searched for the server name, I found a whole buch of OCX registry
entries that referenced the UNC pathname. After making the necessary
changes (two workstations have been done so far - 32 more to go...) it
seems that the speed issue has been resolved.

If I do have more issues, I'll let you know.

Thanks once again for your help,
John Mahala

Recently, we had upgraded from 5.1 to 6.1. We have been having issues
with certain trackers having very poor performance. Users will have
to wait for roughly 30 seconds for the Part Tracker to open up. The
Customer and Job Trackers aren't all that quick either. However Order
Tracker and others seem to be fine. The rest of the Vantage system
seems to perform well too.

I know the workstation registries should be purged of any remnants of
Progress91C, and it has been done. Still no change. Epicor doesn't
seem to be able to offer any more help.

Does or did anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions or
resolutions?

Thanks much.

Did you change servers in the upgrade? Or perhaps had a test server for awhile that is now gone? A known cause for slow trackers (and most everything else, like login) is residue of the old server name in the client PCs when the old server has been shutdown. Check the HOSTS file on the client and remove all references to the old server. Ditto for the registry where references to non-existant servers can do funny things to the network access. So aside from prior Progress versions old servers can gum things up too.

Todd,

Yes we did migrate to a new server. The old one is no longer sitting
on our network. I do know that I did not purge the old entry from the
hosts file. I hadn't figured that it would have much bearing on
performance. I'll try it out and let you know.

Thanks again,
John Mahala
