Have antivirus exclude checking the mapped Epic51 folder.

I'll bring up the old stand-by. You didn't mention if there is any virus
software, if there is; is it checking incoming and outgoing traffic. My are
set incoming only, it's a little faster. Nancy

I have a new Dell Dimension 4550 Client.
256mb RAM, 100mb Ethernet Connection, Windows XP Pro.
Vantage 5.1

Task Scheduling Service has been turned off on the client.
No programs load in the Programs/Startup folder on the client.

User is setup as a poweruser.
Vantage loads very, very, very slow.
Task Manager on the client shows network traffic as vantage tries to load.
After 2-3 minitues of trying to load I give up.

Change the Clients User group from PowerUser to Administrator and Now
vantage loads find.

Anyone care to comment on why?
I'm stuck. And obviously don't want to leave the User setup as
administrator.

Patrick

I'm not sure about 5.1, but in 4.0 I have had success resolving problems
with my Windows XP clients by giving the user admin rights to just the
vntgwrk folder on their C: drive. Try that and see if it helps.

Patrick,
I am running InoculateIT. There is an Icon in the tray that with a right
click I can set the options to "monitor incoming files". Or I can open the
software and set my "real-time monitor options".
If you are using a real-time monitor type function with Symantec, there
should be a setting for monitoring activity. I'm sorry this isn't very
helpful, maybe someone else will know the exact settings.

I am using Symantec Corp Ed. 8.0. On the Parent server under the console
root right click on Norton antivirus 1, go to all tasks, Symantec antivirus,
client realtime protection options and you have a check box that allows you
to select whether you want to scan in real time any network connection.
I'm not sure about just incoming. It made a huge difference in our Vantage
logon times when I unchecked this.

Thanks Jim, After redoing the C: drive permissions vantage now loads.
I also unchecked NETWORK drives from Symantec like you mentioned to see if
that helped. I was excluding .vtg files already and thought maybe not
looking at network drives REAL TIME could help further. Thanks again.
