Lemme preface this by saying “I hate sales kits”.
Now, onto the good stuff.
We use kits quite frequently, but every now and then the components of the kit will not pull into customer shipment entry.
These kits are marked as “Must Ship Kit Complete”.
The parents pull into the shipment.
If I run a BAQ on the ShipDtl, I can see the kit component lines in there, but they’re not showing in the tree nor on the Lines/Sales Kit Component Issue tab.
I have seen this before when the KitParentLine got jacked up and are referencing the wrong line, but this is not the case with a couple orders I have.
I have also seen it have issues in shipment entry when the order will have orphaned components after the kit parent was deleted from the summary, but this is also not the case in these instances.
Any ideas?
I’d try to help but my solution will only ever involve not ever using sales kits ever and setting them on fire so I’ll be quiet and go to my corner now…
However, I’ve had to support them and their quirks. A couple of things to check:
In 9.07 - not sure if it’s still the same in 10 versions, but if you were multi-site, you had the have a valid BOM in the plant you were entering the sales order in. Either that or add alternate methods.
In 9.07 and 10.0, I’ve seen cases where the CSR didn’t hit save after putting in a line that is a kit, so the components were never pulled in.
Happy to say we haven’t gone down the sales kit path where I’m at now

We are multi-site and we use sales kits with some frequency and we do have some problems with them too. We’re on 10.1.600.20. Generally when we have an error it starts on the Sales Order side. We call them “half baked” kits The system seems to occasionally choke on pulling the components and then when it is time to ship I get a call asking why the pick list for the order doesn’t show what needs picking.
We’ve asked order entry to ensure the kit components load before moving onto next line.
If we get a half-baked kit on a sales order we delete the sales order line and re-enter it and wait for the kit to load.
Our error has definitely occurred more frequently when we are loading kits with > 10 parts on it and on slower user computers.
Another error we run across occasionally with the components showing wrong site to pull from, when we want it to pull from parent site. Is it possible you have a similar situation with multiple warehouses and it’s not setup to pull from same one? Do you have problems with kits loading on the order?
Thanks for the suggestion. I checked out the parent and all of the components, but the warehouses seem to be aligned. We do occasionally run into what you’re calling “half-baked” kits and our process is the same as yours–delete the lines and re-add them.
For the two orders I’m currently dealing with, they all appear to have their components loaded. If I get more pressed for time, I’m going to delete and re-add the lines as that usually fixes all the issues (have you tried turning it off and on again? ), but I’d really like to find the root cause to prevent this in the future. If I know what actions cause this issue, I can try to poka yoke the system.
Hmmm just picked up this thread. We are not even live and I’m just struggling to import the darn things.
How are people living without sales kits? Most of our kit parts only have two sub parts. I am open to suggestions.
In the mean time has anyone ever used the DMT to import them. I can import the Engineering workbench group and the BOM, but I still have to go into E10 to approve the revision, which is a little counter productive.
