Shipping Labels v8.03.407

Ahhh fun with labels...there are so many ways you can go on this one.
We are typically at the mercy of our customers when it comes to labels.
We build products for OEM's which assemble at their various facilities.
With about 20 major customers we need a different label for about half
of them. Some are not picky and don't specify much about the label. In
addition some customers specify that the label must show the quantity
represented in a specific container (or in our case pallet) not just the
entire shipment.

Essentially our labels are set up to automagically print with their
format based on customer ID, the quantities will match specifically what
is on each pallet (how the hell does vantage know that?? Ask if you're
interested), as well as the proper number of labels needed for the total
number of pallets shipped. We typically ship multiple sales order
lines/releases on one packing slip. The packing slip also automagically
prints with the shipping label as well. We use crystal reports with an
altered data definition, as well as a BAM. DON'T let anyone sell you
Bartender...what a no value added revenue generator for Epicor that one
is (or if you really want a copy I have an unopened box at a reasonable
price..). Here we chose to use Zebra printers, though there are a few
others out there that do a pretty stand up job as well. Label materials
abound...for stuff that we ship we use a polypropylene type label that
is impervious to water, wind, and withstands a fair amount of abuse.

We also semi-autoprint receipt labels for discrete plate steel when it
isn't laser marked from the mills or service centers. A simple check
box on the receipt entry screen indicates to the system when the
operator wants the form to automatically print or not. This generates a
number of labels based on how many discrete plates are received. In the
data definition there is a way to print a variable number of copies of a
particular form, and that simply monitors an user defined field which
shows the number of plates (in our case one label per plate).

We are also just starting to experiment with WIP tags as well for
movement between workcenters and possible elimination of work order
travelers. I could go on, but these are two good examples of label
uses...hit me offline if you want further dialogue..

Subject: [Vantage] Shipping Labels v8.03.407

I'm looking to see how other companies handle labels. Vantage is setup
to print a label for each line item on the sale order, is their
a way to only get one label printed and have the option to print as many
labels as possible? Also looking if I create a label (not using
the label template wizard) how to line up the label to be printed out on
pre-printed labels(Using dot matrix printer)?
