Setting up a new sql instance

You specify the database on the "Change the Default Database" prompt.

Progress Properties had to be changed because the Schema Holder Update tool doesn't create them properly. I just copied the propath and workdir settings from MfgSys803. The rest are just performance tuning.

I installed sql, thats up and running. I now want to get a test
database going. I copied production and named it MfgTest803. Copies
were made of the full text catalogs automatically during the copy (ie
backup/restore as new db). What do I need to setup so progress knows to
look for MfgTest803 in the app servers that already exist? This isn't
listed int heir install guide.
Thanks,
Adam
Sounds like you got MSSQL ready, when you installed 803, did it create a
MfgTest803 app servers and schema holders? Ours did and I didn't do
anything special to do it.

If not, someone else here or Install Support can walk you through creating
the schema holder and app servers. I'm not sure of the process myself.

Thanks,

Randy

Here's some notes I've used in the past when creating MfgTest803 and
MfgPilot803 since they weren't created properly on the original 8.03
disks for SQL. -new is the name of the new database, like MfgPilot803. /
between parameters is settings for test/live databases

If necessary, run D:\Updates\SchemaHolderUpdateInstall.exe
(Manufacturing Systems by Epicor)

Enterprise Manager

Create -new Database

Name -new

Collation SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS

Data File E:\SQLData\MSSQL\Data\-new_Data.MDF

Log File E:\SQLData\MSSQL\Data\-new_Log.LDF

Change -new Database Properties

Options: AutoShrink

Restore from Live

Create ODBC Connection

Create folder E:\Epicor\-new\DB

Stop OE Admin Service

Copy E:\OE100B\Properties D:\ChrisR\Properties

Run Programs\Manufacturing by Epicor\Schema Holder Update Tool

New -new

V800 E:\Epicor\MfgSys803

Open E:\OE100B

Progress mfgsyssh (lowercase!!)

Directory E:\Epicor\-new\DB

Ports (DB App Process Task; 3,1 in TaskAgent)

Live 8300-3

Train 8310-3

Test 8320-3

Pilot 8330-3

Check AppServer Properties: change propath, workdir

Optimization

Default Configuration

BlocksInDatabaseBuffers=5000/50000

LockTableEntries=16384

SpinLockRetries=20000/40000 (2/4 cpus)

MfgSysGroup

MessageBufferSize=4096

Parameter Files

-lbimod 0 -Mm 4096 -mmax 4000/65534 -Bt 4000/50000 -TB 31 -TM 32 -D 500
-I 1000 -s 200 -yy 1970

-stsh 31 -inp 32000 -tok 4000

UBroker (Agent Pool Range)

initialSrvrInstance=1/5

maxSrvrInstance=9/20

minSrvrInstance=1

thanks for the info.
so if the app servers and schema holders were created, then just
create the odbc connection to the 803 test db, and set the app
properties (which seems to be performance related but possibly
optional below?). Any particular name the odbc connection requires,
and where does that get set to tell progress "this dsn is for this
appserver"?

yea.. have the app servers and schema holders, so then whats the next
step? I see there is another post - going to review that now as well
