Serial Tracked Part with on hand quantity but no associated serial number

Hi All,

I have a serial number track part number with a total on hand quantity of 5 but only 4 serial numbers with a status of “Inventory”. I’m still relatively new to serial numbers so I’m trying to understand how this could have happened.

I discovered this because a user said that a serial number is missing and was asking to have it added. It looks like you cannot just add a serial number with a status of Inventory.

Is it possible to add this serial number? If yes, how would I go about it?

It has been a minute but if I recall in Serial Number Maintenance you used to be able to change the status is that not an option any more?

@josecgomez you are correct, you can change the status of a serial number through the maintenance screen.

@joerojas more than likely the serial numbers and inventory got out of sync because of a bad transaction. If you know the serial number, I would pull it up in maintenance and change its status to Inventory.

Hi Joe,

When trying to figure out what has gone down with a serial number record the serial number tracker SN trans tab can be very useful for analysis. Comparing the SNtrans on the bad one vs the good ones might shed some light.

Thanks all. In this case, the user is reporting that a specific serial number does not exist in Epicor. I confirmed this. My hope was to just add the serial number but you can only add a serial number, in Serial Number Maintenance, with a status of Shipped and tied to a customer.

Correct, but then you can delete the Customer and change the status if you need to.

This is covered in the Epicor Knowledge Base KB0044822
