Serial numbers

Thanks Lydia. That is the same idea I came up with but our Q.A. department
doesn't like it. They want to be able to track a serial number with a
specific prefix.
I read somewhere in "the what's new for 6.0" that there will be better
tracking.

We track lots and use the original job # as our lot number. Just an
idea.
Then we can find out where it came from if the part comes back.
Especially
if its brothers (or sisters -- that litigation thing, you know) come
back
too, then we have a starting point.

Need your help.
Scenario: We have a manufactured part which we want serial number
tracked.
We therefore create a shop order and assign serial numbers to the
job. We
then receive parts to stock with the serial numbers. When we look at
serial
number it shows the original shop order under the job tab. We now
issue one
of these stock parts to a job. In serial number tracker it now shows
the new
job. Is there anyway to find out what the original job was? I'm on
Vantage
5.0

Thanks
