[semi-OT] HR/Payroll Integration with Vantage

Jasper:
We're on 6.1 and I have just a few RB reports that I use. One is a report from the Labor Edit entries so I have a nice clean listing each week of hours worked and I use it to go through the payroll screens for each person to verify hours worked and I also mark it up with Vacation Pay etc, or attendance things like tardies and reasons for absences, etc. We keep this report on file.

Then I have a report that lists the overtime paid for the week. And a third one creates my 401K file that I upload on the website.
Other than that, Vantage payroll reports are adequate.

I have one question, since the some vantage payroll tables are encrypted, does anybody create their own reports or is Vantage's reports adequate?

Thanks,

Ditto, Jerry. We also use the Data Collection module for job costing and
payroll hour's collections. We also use the vacation/sick hours' accrual
feature. I used to be sold on ADP, swearing that you could not process
payroll for less than ADP can. I do not believe that any longer.

We have used the Vantage PR since we started in 1996. I have always been

satisfied with how it works. We allow employees to have up to 3 direct
deposit accounts, 401K, voluntary deducts, sec125 plan deducts, several
earnings types, shift differential and so on. We are able to process
payroll for 2 companies with a total of 100 employees in a couple of
hours.
We use data collection so I can not speak to importing this data. We
have a
system of daily verification/edit of clock ins/outs so that work is done
in
advance of processing payroll. I never have a problem with payroll taxes
or
W-2s. I have been able to automate upload of data for diredt deposits,
payroll taxes, 401K, and others. Needless to say, I would hate to change
or
have to deal with an outside service. It is not perfect and there are
some
revisions that would be nice but overall for us, it works great.

I have been asked to poll the group about alternatives for coordinating or integrating Vantage with various payroll systems and services and then with an HR package.

Currently we are exporting hours from Data Collection to a text file that is imported into the Preview software we use for Paychex (similar to ADP). I finally have a Report Builder report that correctly handles our bizzare overtime rules. The import eliminates 90% of the keying of hours and a couple exceptions alert reports zero the person doing payroll in on potential problems (like person not here 90 days to not eligible for holiday pay). Our CFO wants to dump Paychex and bring payroll totally in-house.

An obvious alternative is Vantage payroll and we will look at this. For those using this are you happier with Payroll than some of the other modules? We can't transfer our labor hours directly (due to inability to handle overtime the way we require) so is there a way to import the hours I have calculated?

Is anyone else using a different payroll system that is totally internal but seperate from Vantage? Main questions we would have are ability to import hours (again) and then how you handle recording to Vantage G/L...only via journal entries?

Also in the mix is need for an HR system. Integration with payroll would be nice as would integration with Vantage shop employee but we can live without the Vantage link on this. This is mainly for record keeping and various trackings per employee for our HR Manager so it could be entirely standalone. Anyone have a package they are thrilled with?

Thanks for any insights, suggestions or warnings you can offer.

Todd:
How many employees do you have? That might make a difference.
We've used Vantage's Payroll since we went live with Vantage and I like it - it's so much easier than our old package.
It takes a little bit of set up to get all of the numbers to flow to the right G/L accounts, but after that it's very easy - especially if you
use Data Collection. I would almost think that it would be just as easy (or easier) to run thru and review each employee's pay/deductions in Vantage's payroll than to export it to the Preview software you are using and review each one that way. When we have Sunday or double-time, I still have to go back through those and manually change them to double-time, but again, it sounds like your payroll person(s) go through a pretty elaborate review process anyway, I think they would find it just as easy to do with directly through Vantage. I also do all of our tax reporting, W-2's etc.

Also, a few years ago we bought an HR package called People Trak. It was reasonably priced and our HR Mgr is very happy with it. They did a mapping to Vantage and we uploaded everything we needed to it, and she has a large variety of reports that she is pleased with. Since then Epicor released their
own HR package, but I'm not familiar with it. Might be worth checking into.....

My .02 cents!

You can use ODBC and Crystal to create reports from the PR tables. I have
also used the BAQ export to dump PR data out to excel.
