[semi-OT] Automated/Scheduled Server Restart

An off-list post from Bernie Walker has led me to a thought about shutting down the DB in advance of the system restart. Does anyone have a command verison of _mprshut.exe (such as I use for ProMon) that will do the equivalent of an Option 8-2 (unconditional shutdown)? Something I could put in a batch file and then wait a bit before doing the shutdown command.
Thanks,
-Todd C.

Good idea on the backup. Rather than seperately schedule for midnight (as intended) but before the backup runs I could run a seconday batch process after the already scheduled nightly backup runs. Then control when I want it to run or not by putting a "rem" on the line (or taking it off). This way the restart would happen after the backup.

On the shutdown itself the more I read the more I find the /r part is the same as manually clicking on Start-Shutdown-Restart which has never seemed to bother Vantage.

Thanks,
-Todd C.

Todd,
To be sure, you can schedule the run of a bat file that would stop the service. Something like net stop "service name".
You could secondarily call for a shutdown.

Rebooting would allow the service to restart automatically.

Just thinking off of the top of my head, I would like to get the latest backup possible, so maybe start the script with the probkup or something to do a backup and then proceed with the rest.

I need to reboot our Vantage server occasionally and remoting in from home at midnight after the 2nd shift has gone is a PITA...not to mention the ugly look from my wife for waking her up. ;)Can I safely use a scheduled "Shutdown /r /f" command on the Win2003 server that runs Vantage? Will this properly (safely) stop the Vantage Progress DB (9.1D)? Admin service is Automatic and the DB is set to restart when the service starts so that side already works OK.Thanks,Todd CaugheyHarvey Vogel Mfg.
