Hi Mark,

I can only put 2 characters in the unit of measure in Vantage 8. Can
you use more? Is there some setup somewhere restricting us to 2
characters or you talking about Epicor 9.

Regards,
Linda

Hi Linda,

Just a couple of things:

- The UOM field is larger than two characters.

- At the part level, you can override the conversion fact by doing a
part
specific UOM. See the new UOM tab in Part Entry.

Hi Richard,

Please do elaborate. In Vantage 8 we use SH for sheets and LN for bar
stock. During conversion we have to tell Vantage what class and
conversion factor to use for SH. Obviously I can't do that since there
could be many conversion factors.

After talking to LeAnn it sounds like I need to go through all my parts
and make up new units of measure for the different sheet sizes and bar
stock before doing the conversion - if I can make enough combinations
using only 2 characters for UOM. Then after conversion go through all
the parts again and create more logical unit of measure codes.

Linda

Hi Joe,

I'm happy to say we don't use dimensionally tracked parts. When we
tried the conversion I was unable to make changes to the UOM class on
any parts.

When we try the conversion again I'll take your advice and run the stock
status reports.

Thank you,

Linda

Linda,

I can't stress enough. Test the UOM's. Especially if you are using
Dimensionally Tracked Parts. Dimensionally Tracked parts will
automatically create your parts to be Part Specific. With this done, you
will not be able to change your parts to a different UOM class.

I also found a bug in the conversion of these Dimensionally Tracked
Parts. We are currently running Vantage 6.1. We wanted to go live to
Epicor 9 back around September but ran into these UOM issues. Epicor
finally admitted to me that there is an issue in December of 2009. I
gave them a solution that I would be willing to work with. To this day,
I have not gotten anything from Epicor saying when this problem will be
fixed. Just that they are working on getting it fixed.

In addtion, to test your unit of measure conversion, Run your Stock
Status in your old system. then run it in Epicor 9. The value of your
inventory should not change. Ours did by $200K.

Once again, Test, Test, Test.

Linda,

This is what we did.
First we cleaned up all the various UOM's which included many typo's in Vantage before converting so we did not create a lot of Junk UOM's that we would be stuck with in Epicor.

In Epicor, after conversion, I set up the following:
We inventory Bar Stock by the inch, but purchase by the Pound. Within the Length Measurement Part Class I set up a Part Specific UOM of LBs (to not be confused with the UOM LB in the Weight Measurement Part Class). For each part, I added the Part Specific Conversion Factor the next time I ordered the material. This allows Epicor to convert from LBs not only to IN but also to FT, YD etc. Since I normally purchase in 12' bars, I also set up a UOM of BAR12 defined as 144 IN.

For Sheets, under the Area Measurements I have set up UOM's (not part specific) such as SH36x for a 36x36" sheet defined as 9 SF. We also have SFe set up as a Part Specific conversion from Squarre Feet to Each.
For Rolled material I have set up UOM's such as LF36w for a Linear Foot of 36" wide material defined as 3 SF, or YD36w defined as 9 SF.

Group,

Thank you very much everyone who responded. I think we will be much
better prepared for the next try at converting to Epicor 9. I'm anxious
to get there and try out the new query and bpm features. I could care
less about parts, but alas other people do.

I am running into this exact same problem. I have a POST SalesOrder.Update BPM which does everything I need, but I have to hit refresh on the release before I can do anything. If not I get "Record has been updated by another user".

A code example of the form event would be very helpful.
