Here at Electron Energy we manufacture a part that never goes into inventory
always ships from a job. But we noticed that Vantage was not calculating
average cost for these parts, which our cost estimator relies on for future
quoting of the part. The only way to get the average cost was to inventory
the parts, but production needed the job linked to the sales order, so I
have a link to inventory for the production quantity mark as auto receive to
inventory, and our shipping department automatically ships these parts from
inventory, and a link to the sales order for 0 quantity. It has worked
perfect for us.

HELP!!!

I've been told by our consultant that we cannot have a job that is created
both for a sales order and for stock. So under his recommendation I have
gone through all of our current jobs and unlinked for their sales order.
The problem with this is that now the job scheduling board show all these
jobs for CustID "Stock".
Even though we are shipping from inventory we are doing so for a specific
order and we need to be able to see the CustID on the schedule. Does anyboy
know how I can maybe export this information to MS Project so that I can
manipulate the information to see what we want to see?

I we go the other way and ship from WIP then at the end of the month
everything we have left in the warehouse is then WIP on the financial
statment and we don't want that either.

So Confused in MI!!!

I want to be sure I understand your problem Joan.

You cut a Job for, say, 10,000 pieces ... expecting
to ship 1,500 off the Job and 8,500 to stock?

We routinely split a job between made to stock and made to order. Be carry
backup stock for customers on occasion. We may assemble 10 pcs on a job,
where 8 pcs are linked to a sales order and the remainder go to stock.

Don't know all of the details to understand why your consultant doesn't want
you to do this.

Joan,

I don't know what your consultant is going for, but most of our jobs are
linked to a sales order and also have a "link" for a stock quantity. Never
any problem except with wip capture. If there are shipments on a job,
always receive to inventory B4 you run wip or you will have to calculate the
costs manually.
