We are using scheduling along with APS. Overall it's been a huge success for our operations. We get fairly detailed; as far as resources, you'll probably find a blended approach is required because of the scheduling engine's major weakness (it can't schedule an operation across calendars). How much detail you want to put into it depends on how much of a zealot regarding finite scheduling you are and what scheduling discipline you're going to adopt (finite vs. infinite). If you expect it to give you a serious schedule you have a chance of executing, then you'll have to spend some time getting things right in the system. As accurate as you model your behavior in real time within the system, is as accurate of a result you're going to get. Aside from the few short falls the scheduling system has, and it does have them, I find most people's expectations fall short, not because of what Vantage is or isn't capable of, it's because they habitually lie to it (or more to the point themselves). Your scheduling implementation should be as much or more about changes needed within the culture of your organization and how you execute your plan, as it is going about setting parameters and improving routing accuracy (however don't underestimate the importance of that segment).

Subject: [Vantage] Scheduling Module and Advanced Scheduling
We are looking at "re-implementing" the scheduling module. Can you tell me if you are using the basic or the advanced version and how well it's working for you. Also - how detailed you get when using it - do you stay at the resource group level or do you get down to the "person" level or somewhere in between.
