Preactor (not inexpensive & SAP oriented) is the big boy on the block for 3rd
party scheduling.DOn't know where you are so who miht be able to assist in
integratin and support is a big ??? (If in the Pittsburg PA area - I might know
someone).
Also do a general web search on Drum Buffer Rope scheduling software. Before the
Infor's and Epicor's of the world swallowed up financially shaking (but well
through out product offerings), this TOC paradaigm was going to bne the next
wave (as it works as well with kanban/pull as it does with ore traditional 'roll
the rokc down the hil' and try to keep it straight while running next too it -
and also not getting run over by OTHER rocks!) MRP avalanche paradigm (with or
without overly complex, unmaintainably modeling paradigm tools).
Pretty good bet you'll see Lilly's VISUAL within that search (Infor
aquisition)... Not the latest greatest technonology (which isn't necessarily
bad), not particularly pretty (also not bad if it performs & insn't a thru-put
obtsacle), very lean-centric (long before leaches started bleeding companies as
consultants rehashing 40 year old SOP practices from the pre-PC age).
Assess what size you expect to be in 3-7 years. VISUAL;s weakness (if I remember
right) was scalability (perhaps since addressed since i last looked at it 3
years ago). Even with that, It was 2nd on my list of 'buys' out of the dozen we
look at. (What we bought, and I don't think I have to state it being on this
group, ranked 4th - and in restrospect that was kind).
ERP systems (or simpler forms for smaller companies) need to become no more of a
commitment than choosing a data server platform, email & office apps, and
washing/changing underwear.
Soewhere, too many of us were sold on the notion that the products (which of
course DO work - at least when they are being sold to you) are SO complex, you
can't expect to change systems often.
To me that's a failure of the promise of the software, it's tendency to sell to
IT (as a 'bleeding edge of technology budget driver) & & to CEO's (who like
magic bullet solutions that don't exist), crappy intermixed code from all the
products gobbled up an poorly rolled into one, the utter failure of the industry
to actually have people on development teams that HAVE manufacturing experience
- and I mean YEARS - not a summer exposure...
Lilly's VISUAL might prove a (realistic) outright, improvemnt (and lower cost)
than what you have now IF you aren't afraid of outgrowing it to soon
Good luck &Â Keep in touch. (VERY curious as to what you find and what you end up
doing.)
