Sales Tax Blank Title 72671

Can anyone give me an over of how sales tax works in the system
specifically if I want to charge sales tax for some items in the part
master but not others.

Thanks!

We are currently restructuring some of our warehouse bin layouts and
looking to implement new bin numbers. Does anyone know if/how we can
delete, remove, or hide the old bins?

thank you in advance,

We have never found a way. Epicor needs to add an inactive option for
bins.

We've always had to resort to renaming the bin description to something like 'Obsolete.' Of course if you're not careful the bin can (and probably will) be used at some point.

In 8.03, the bin should be able to be deleted if it is not refereced by
anything else.

So as long as you no longer have any inventory located in it, and it is not
setup as the default location for any parts, WIP or anything else, there
shouldn't be any problem deleting a bin.

I agree that there shouldn't be a problem with this, but in our experience it is not possible to delete a bin if it is associated with any past inventory transactions, even if there if there is no inventory located in it and it is not set as the default for any parts. Vantage will advise "Delete not allowed, referenced by at least one inventory transaction."

Yeah, can't inactivate them... However, you can change their descriptions. I
read here on the list once that someone just but a small "z" in front so
that at least they sort to the bottom.

Daniel,

In 8.03.305, you will run into trouble trying to rename a bin

What a pain!

I can understand not being able to delete a bin if it's referenced in the transaction history, for database integrity reasons, but not being able to make a bin inactive is ridiculous.

It is a real pain and warehouses fall into the same category. We set up our warehouse structure then had to make some changes and have this same problem.

Its great isn't it...!

However, there is nothing to stop you invoking one of the user
defined logical fields within the bin data table ( sorry, I can't
remember which one it is off-hand, it might be PartBin ), and then
using this to indicate the activity state. Then you can write some
custom dasboards to only show those bins where your flag is set to
true...

Its quite easy to do...

Thanks,

Nick

We had this same problem with bins and warehouses, but in our case we did not care about the history. We are using SQL, and the only solution I came up with which is
not recommended
was to write some queries to sort through the tables and delete the entries with the partnum, warehousecode and binnum that we wanted removed.Â
Have not had any problems except for the occasional part that was suppose to me in the warehouse that the supervisor said to delete, but I made sure to copy each table I edited to another database before I did anything so it was easy to replace the data if needed.Â

In the end I cleaned up about 3 gigs of data from the database, most of it from the parttran table. So no more warehouses named Prodiction, Pruduction, Priduction, Prodt
A dictionary is a terrible thing to waste!

Like I said, not recommended and not supported but it can be done.Â

Yes, I remember running into that now. I ended having to add the bin id to the description, so for example the description for bin 10A became "Obsolete 10A." I can understand not being able to delete a bin if it's referenced in the transaction history, for database integrity reasons, but not being able to make a bin inactive is ridiculous.

Daniel,

You are correct in that you cannot delete a bin if there is any
previous transaction associated with it.

In 8.03.305, you will run into trouble trying to rename a bin
as "obsolete" as the description has to be unique too...!

What a pain!

We just went through the same process of re-designing our WH Bins.

It's tons of work, but we created a new warehouse. Since we had to do
a transfer anyway, we just transfered to a new WH/Bin. We did not
have the primary bins set for our parts. So, we didn't have to do
double work.

I heard that in Version 9, you can inactivate bins.

Checking...

Why yes you can!

The other big change in bins is for two new modules: customer managed
inventory and supplier managed inventory. A bin can be standard, customer
material, or supplier material. Transferring to and from these kinds of bins
actually perform "shipping" and "receiving" functions IIRC.

Mark W.
In 8.03, you cannot delete a bin if there is a transaction record
referencing it. This is also true of part numbers. The only way to
remove them is to go into the actual Progress database and remove
them.

I'm pretty computer savvy and know that I could figure this out, but
I instead had 2WTech take care of it. They were able to remove the
unwanted records and take care of it in about 45 minutes.

Would you mind posting what version of Epicor you are on and the SQL

The Epicor response will be the standard "fixed in Epicor 9."

To be fair it is fixed in 9.
