Sales tax adjustment

I find it easiest to just issue a credit for the original invoice, then
re-invoice with correct tax items. Everything will show up correctly on the
reports.

Good afternoon,

Our current method of sales tax adjustments is causing a problem for
paying
the correct amount on my sales tax return. Currently, if a customer
decides
to pay sales tax on an invoice already sent out as an exempt sale, we
issue
an additional billing that shows up as a "miscellaneous charge". It is
properly distributed to sales tax payable in the G/L but does not show in
the tax column in the sales tax register. So I would not know this misc.
charge is tax or which district to pay the tax. I would have the same
type
situation where a customer provides a resale card and deducts tax
requiring
a sales tax adjustment.

When doing a sales tax adjustment, is it possible to enter one line as a
negative for exempt sales (non-inventory) and the second line as a
positive
for taxable sales which would create an invoice (or credit memo if needed)
for the tax only? What is the best way to make a sales tax adjustment?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

When we need to invoice sales tax only, we have to create a miscellaneous
invoice with a line in the invoice for $.00001 (simply enter "Sales Tax" for
the part number and description). Then we can add tax to that line using
manual calculation. You can edit the Reportable tax, the Taxable Amount,
and the Tax. If you have to issue credit for tax, when you create the
invoice line, you must enter $.01 in the amount or you won't be able to post
the credit. This method will add the correct amounts to your sales tax
reports generated through Vantage.
