Request to Drive PO Suggestion

Had a question to help find the best way to drive PO suggestions for samples.

Story: We have engineering asking for item that may or may not be in stock. Right now, we use a Job with the request material option. That works great for items that are in inventory and if not in inventory, it does not drive a PO suggestion. When the items are not in stock, we use an outside an Epicor requisition to place a PO for parts.

Issue: The issue we have with that is when MRP runs again, due to no physical demand for the item in the system, the PO suggestions says to cancel the PO. We know there is a requisition module, but our approval matrix is too complicated to have approvals done through that.

Any thoughts on how we can use something within the system to drive requests?

if you have a RELEASED JOB in the system with a Material and a quantity (fixed quantity works well for this) and if that job is scheduled, THEN the PO Suggestion should be generated for the job. We used to do this all the time. We created “Engineering prototype” jobs to build out our prototypes. Engineering would add materials to the job, and even mark them as “Purchase Direct” if they were for a part that didn’t exist in the part master yet. It is the ultimate in flexibility.
