God Day Ned and Blake:
Speed is the question.
We have a large db -- 18 gig.
We have 298,000 Part#'s
How long does D&L take?
How long did your data download take - ours took 50 hours with
continuously running 8 processors.

Blake, a Dump and Load does nothing to clean out any "Bad" data in the
Database, it does not affect data at all. The only thing a dump and load
does is to re-arrange the location of the data and put the data from all
tables together, closer to one another in order to make the accessing of the
data from the same table faster since it is more organize.
The data itself is not affected by the dump and load. Bad data is still bad
data.
One thing I have found useful is to use the D&L process as an opportunity to
flush tables like the Chglog table, which can speed things up considerably
since the DB as a whole is smaller up to 75% in some cases, but you do lose
your Change log Data up to that point. Although many people have Change Logs
setup and not even realize how much more data that is putting into the DB,
especially if it's change log data that you don't actually need.

Sure... "Dump & Load" is a procedure done to the Vantage database.
Through various steps you take the database and run it through some
processes that clean out all the "bad" data. You then restore the newly
"cleaned" up data. It typically makes your Vantage wait times a lot shorter.
For example, there is a certain canned Vantage financial report that takes
about 3 minutes to run after a dump and load. After about three months after
the dump and load that same report takes 40 minutes. That is how I know its
time to run a dump and load again.

Good Day Blake:
I am not sure what you mean by "Dump and Load".
Could you explain a little.

Is your Quote Entry customized? Have you done a dump and load of the
database?

Good Day:
We continue to chase slowness in E9.
Sun went live on 11/29/10
on Epicor 9, 9.05.601B SQL-Unidata
Sun was previously on M2K (Manage-2000) 7.0 SP 5 (Informix)
One specific item is: In Quote entry, Line-Entry, After you type in the
Part# and hit [Enter], it takes 15 seconds for the screen to cycle.
In Order-Entry it is only 2-4 seconds
1. Do have a similar delay on your system?
2. Version?
3. Progress, SQL, or SQL-Unidata
4. number of Part#s - we have 280,000
