Report Run Times - Differences Between Users

As always we hit the subject I deal with!
I too strugle with RB Reports run times here
I run alot of reports for labor edit
Users call me when I run them because all of a sudden Vantage is froze up.
I researched the permission issue
I even went as far as to set up a special report account that I switch
to when I run these reports
If I run the reports under my special report account people complain
If one of the secretaries does it, they don't
I gave up
Ordered a new server
The labor edit reports that take 15 - 20 minutes on my old server take
about 1 1/2 minutes on my new server

Unfortunatly management decided at the last minute to NOT Let me do
the switchover/upgrade the end of last year because of end of the year
inventory and we are still struggling on the old server

Crazy
I finally gave up trying to pin point it

Good Luck
Mainly an RB question but might be related to other report types.

I have a bunch of reports that when I run them from the development window in RB they take maybe 1-2 minutes. When I run them on my PC from within Vantage they might take 5 minutes. When a user runs them from his machine they will take about 1/2 hour (identical to mine in almost every way - both P-IV 2.8Ghz, 1GB RAM, 40GB Disk, fast video, 100Mb net on same switch) . I have not yet tried having user run once from outside Vantage because I generally discourge users from even knowing about RB.

Any ideas or speculation about what might cause this difference in run times? This being post-yearend report frenzy time the users are getting restless waiting for reports (and envious of my short run times).

Thanks,

Todd,

Just to clarify, the reports have been added to the vantage menu structure
or you are running them from the customer report link master file or are you
running them from a VBFORM button.

Login as the user on your station to see if it's permission/user thing.
Login as your self on the slow client. Maybe this will distinguish between
hardware and software.

Good points on the user/permission difference, well worth trying for more clues. Users run from menus via Custom Report Links.
