Report Builder - printing calculated field value used as filter

I knew I was making this harder than it needed to be. Just what I needed.

Thanks Aaron

Kim,
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Wouldn't this be easier to do with just a filter that has
Part.Description MATCHES '*A1*'. instead of the filter and formula.
Or is the position of the searched text important? Are the search
values static?
Another untested thought would be to look at making the text value
searched for a formula (static text value) and using that formula field
as part of the index formula. Then you could place the value of the
text searched formula at will.
I admit I don't fully understand your goal in the report, but these seem
potential workarounds for you.
If I am still off track, please fill in some more details about what the
goal of the report is.
Aaron

Aaron,

Thanks for the tips. But won't the report filter show the
starting position returned from the index function? What I really want
in the report filter is the string that the index function is searching
for.

Kim

Kim,
I will point you in a direction. It might be just what you are looking
for.
Create a calculated field. In the field insert the built in function
REPORT-FILTER(). You should be able to place this calculated field on
the report at will.
While you are there, check out the other REPORT- ...functions for other
useful information to put in calculated fields.
Good luck,

value used as filter

I have several calculated fields in a report that search for
substrings in the part number or part description field. One
such
caluculated field is called searchCriteria1. Formula is INDEX
(Part.PartNum,'A2')

Then in the report filter I am filtering on searchCriteria <> 0.

Is there a way to show the values (A2 for example) that reside
in the
index formulas on the report? I want to put something in the
header
like this: Search Results For Partial Descriptions of XXX and
XXX
and XXX.

Perhaps there is a better way to do this; I'm relatively new at
Report Builder

Thanks,
