I've tested this. I made a report on the Part table only and inserted the 6 offending fields. Then changed the format to 4 decimal places and saved & closed the report. Upon re-opening it still gives the warning. Normally if you alter the format of a field (add it to a band, change it and then take it off the report) it will retain the format change even if not being printed. I have learned this the hard way for unprinted fields used within calculated fields.
In this case though I am pretty certain that upon opening the report and initially linking to the tables it examines the fields (used or not) as defined in the schemas for "correctness" with RB's limitations. I can't blame Epicor for "going forward" and expanding the precision for some fields (for currency situations perhaps?) in light of RB going away. At least it does not crash RB altogether and is just an anoyance.

Example: WARNING: Format for field AvgBurdenCost has too many digits -
Format has been changed from 'zz,zzz,zzz,zz9.99999' to 'zz,zzz,zzz,zz9.9999'
Did you try to change the format in the reports in question temporally to
say zz9.9 and see if the errors go away. Your example shows the schema
changing from 5 decimal places to 4. It appears if you adjust to 4 the
errors will go away.

I called support about the report builder for mat error when I went to
6.0. They told be they are not going to out any effort into curing the
problem. Funny thing is it only happens when you are in Report Builder.
There you have to click through all the errors ( 6 when you load the part
table). Once they are run from in the menu the errors don't occur....

Subject: [Vantage] Report Builder field format?
I'm preparing to convert from 5.2 to 6.0 by modifying my RB reports, and
when I open some of them I get a warning indicating a format change in some
of the fields in the tables I'm using for the report. I'm not using those
changed fields in the actual report, either directly, or indirectly in a
calculated/aggregate field.
Example: WARNING: Format for field AvgBurdenCost has too many digits -
Format has been changed from 'zz,zzz,zzz,zz9.99999' to 'zz,zzz,zzz,zz9.9999'
What do I do to get rid of the warning? Unless I missed it, the 5.2 to 6.0
upgrade guide doesn't mention RB report conversions.
Thanks
