In the PartMtl table , child part revisions are not tracked. Vantage indeed
seems to make the assumption that there is only one current revision, and
that revision has the most recent effective date.
There is no way in vantage to simultaneously track two seperate revisions of
the same part number. If you need two different current revisions of a
part, give one a different part number.

Wouldn't the Part always use the SubComponent's approved Rev, or if more
than one are approved, use the most recent one based on Effective Date?

Subject: [Vantage] Relation between a Part, its materials and their
revisions
Good day all,
I'm a bit puzzled by the way Vantage keeps track of revision numbers for
materials.
For instance, the Part table has a record for each part in the system.
Table PartRev has an entry for each revision of a Part. Table PartMtl has
records for each material for each revision that make up a Part.
So we have something like this:
In Part table:
PartNum
MainAssyA
SubAssyA
SubAssyB
SubAssyC
In PartRev table:
PartNum RevisionNum
MainAssyA Rev1
MainAssyA Rev2
SubAssyA Rev1
SubAssyA Rev2
SubAssyA Rev3
SubAssyB Rev1
SubAssyB Rev2
SubAssyC Rev1
In PartMtl table:
PartNum RevisionNum MtlPartNum
MainAssyA Rev1 SubAssyA
MainAssyA Rev1 SubAssyB
MainAssyA Rev1 SubAssyC
MainAssyA Rev2 SubAssyA
MainAssyA Rev2 SubAssyB
MainAssyA Rev2 SubAssyC
In this example, we have a Main Assembly made up of three Sub Assemblies.
We
have 2 different revisions of the main Assembly, and also different
revisions of the Sub Assemblies.
In the PartMtl table, we have a relation between the different Sub
Assemblies to their Main Assembly, but there is no information on the Sub
Assemblies' revision number (Field RevisionNum refers to the PartNum, not
to
the MtlPartNum).
My question is then, how does Vantage "know" what revision of a Sub
Assembly
is related to revision X of the Main Assembly ? In my example, if
MainAssyA
Rev2 uses SubAssyA Rev3, where is that indicated ?
Thanks in advance for any information on this subject. Maybe I'm just
overlooking a field somewhere.
