RB - ? marks on report

After I've been gone for three (3) weeks, I'd come back and go DUH!! too.
Have a nice vacation.

My comments were from an experience I had with a "Margin" report. Don't
exactly recall the details, but at least it was worth a shot.

Thanks but yes, the reset is OK and since I am subtracting the result would
have to be smaller.
One example line is
Billed Cost Margin Margin %
590.00 808.00 ????? -36.9% (a prototype job - expected to lose
money)
Margin should be -218.00
Many other such "negative" jobs correctly display, with neg sign. The % is
directly calculated from the Margin and it is correct. I tried changing the
format to designate "&" for unknown value instead of "?" and it still prints
????? so it can't be an unknown. I double checked all the links to be sure
I had left outers and I do. In all the agregates I ignore unknowns.

Lonnie - I did already try the string option - I get a string of ?????????
Terry - As shown above the Billed (Price) and Cost values are present and
correct and "something" is OK in Margin because the % is OK too. (% =
Margin / Billed * 100)

I changed the font (Arial to Courier) with no effect. I have also saved the
report to a PRL of its own with no effect either.

Maybe going away for 3 weeks will allow something to pop into my head. I'll
come back and go DUH!

Thanks for the ideas,
-Todd C.

Hi Todd ...

You have the reset option on the aggregate set correctly? ... Maybe you're
getting a really huge number ...

OK, I've tried all the usual things to get rid of ?????????? appearing
instead of numbers. Very very simple report and I can' t figure out why I'm
getting question marks. Very randomly too. I have a very simple calculated
field called "Margin" which is Price - Cost. On the report both price and
cost print OK but margin prints as ???????. The field is formated as
->,>>>,>>9.99 so is far larger than needed when price is $800 and cost is
$500.

Price and Cost are both aggregate fields (in this case totalling for all
jobs for a part and reporting at part level). Both ignore unknowns and
zeros and I have verified that is not the case with the "raw" data where
?????? is showing up. I have printed all the component calculated fields
that go into Margin and none of them are ??????. I also use Margin in a
subsequent calculation of margin percentage (margin/price) and it displays
the correct number just fine. So I know there is a legitimate "value" there
but it is just not displaying.

Any other ideas I can check that cause question marks? I'm trying to get
this report done today so I can leave on vacation tomorrow.

Thanks,

Try converting the Margin calc to a string, who knows, might work..

Todd:

Check the reset value of Price and Cost with respect to the grouping. It
sounds as if you're trying to print Margin before Price/Cost have values.
It would be ok in the subsequent calculation because by that time Price/Cost
are populated. Try prepass processing on Price/Cost and see what happens.
Just some thoughts off the top.
