RB - Linking memo data to a table

Yup, I could get there that way too. This is a job bookings reporting project and this particular extract is for adjustments to the booking which is recorded in a memo on the job. I start with the memo but do need to eventually get to the order detail for the reps and commission splits. The essence of the whole project is to report bookings to our reps (and us as a whole) and forecast revenue streams based on projected release dates and billings, hence need for Access to deal with the rep splits. I had not thought far enough ahead to the order details and header to realize customer is linkable from there too.
Thanks,
-Todd

Hello Todd,

I'm not sure I understand what your trying to do. Are you linking sales
orders to jobs? If so I would think you would link JobHead to JobProd to
OrderHead to Customer to get at the Customer Name.

Thanks. The real shame is that this report is an extract of data destined
for Access but Access can't ODBC to the Customer table due to too many keys
in 5.20+ (see previous discussion a few weeks ago). All I'm after is the
customer name so I may go ahead and live without it and use just the CustID
(and I don't want to extract & import Customer table to Access). This
project has some other quirks involving split commissions on orders linked
to jobs (a whole 'nother rats nest) that may mean it is doomed anyway.

Todd,
Using Crystal you could do this via a subreport. You would first have to
use a SQL statement to convert the MemoText to
a 255 character field that Crystal can use in a formula. Then you could
parse out the CUSTID in a formula, then link the formula to a field in the
Subreport. I've never done it, but based on past experience it should be
possible. I don't have enough experience with Reprot Builder to know if it
can be done there.

Maybe this comes under the heading "Can't Be Done" but I wanted to be
sure.

I have a Memo table set of items related to JobHead. I can link from Memo
to JobHead no problem. But inside the text of the memos, by convention, we
have CustID which I would like to link to the Customer table to get the
Customer Name. Parsing the CustID out of the memo text is no trick but is
there anyway to link this to the CustID in Customer? I see other fields
listed in the calculated fields on the link "from" side but not CustIDOut
(my parsed out CustID). Is there anyway to get it on that list? If not,
what determines the calculated fields that are shown or not?

Oh, and I know it violates all sorts of referential integrity rules having
uncontroled link data in memos but I want to do it anyway if I can and live
with the ?'s that might result.

Thanks,
