Quoting Software

Dan,

We use Micro Systems Estimating software, www.microest.com
<http://www.microest.com> , for which there is an interface written by
Cam Solutions. Cam Solutions is a division of the same company as Micro
Estimating.

This is a nice package and we have been using it about 4 years.

If you have any questions you can call me. 317-846-6591

Even though I have the quoting module of Vantage, I find it inefficient for
most of the quotes I put together. I am wondering what other quoting
software people are using for putting together quick and dirty quotes
without going through the procedures required for Vantage. Any
recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Dan,

I find the Vantage Quote Module quite easy to use. Especially if there is
a current Methods File in place. Here there are allot of parts that are
similar enough that they can be used in a quote even though they are not
exactly the same. We just bring them into the quote from the methods and
then make the required changes in the quote.

If you are diligent in updating your methods from the production detail
upon job closing you will find your real money makers and the dogs.

Wayne,
What type of manufacturer are you? I am curious what types of products you
have found the quoting module in Vantage to work well with. Our engineers
have nothing good to say about it and refuse to use it. They generate them
in our previous system and reenter them into Vantage if we get the quote.

Darren,
We also find the quoting module easy to use. We are a job shop, machine
and sheet metal fabrication.

We are still on 3.0. We have 4.0 running for testing puposes. Our quoting guy has started using 4.0's quoting module already for real.

You Asked:
What type of manufacturer are you? -----Original Message-----
From: Darren Mann [SMTP:dmann@...]

We are a manufacturer of Glass to Metal hermetic seals servicing Military,
Aero Space, Medical, Automotive, & Commercial Markets.

Even though the parts are much different from one another the go through
much of the same operation sequences. The parts seem to group quite well
in families. Therefore, it is easy for us to pull methods into quotes or
mark quotes as templates.

We also deal quite a bit in the Ordnance Business (People that make things
that go BOOM!). These are parts that are bid for military contracts. When
you get one RFQ you a guaranteed to get a dozen more just like it.

Granted, when we first started with the Quote Module, it was a bit of a
pain in the tail. However, once we got enough data to build on, it works
quite well.
