Questions about _proapsv and _sqlsvr processes

Joe, look at your App Servers and see what your max server settings are. You may not need as many servers. Also, make sure your other dabases are not running (Pilot, Test, Train) if you are not using them and turn off the app servers for those as well. If you want to save memory you can set your databases to read only mode. If you need the tuning guide I can send it to you

Hi All,

I find that I have to regularly log into our Vantage server to see how
much free RAM is available to the system.

Typically, I check because someone tells me that the server is running
slow.

The server as 4GB of RAM and sometimes when I check there is only 256MB
free! I look at the processes running and there are a bunch of
_proapsv.exe processes running that are not doing anything (0 CPU usage)
but have 500MB or more of RAM usage.

If I kill these processes, I get RAM back, my paging file usage drops
and everything is running fine again...until the next time.

Am I missing something here? Is something not configured correctly? Or
is this just how Progress/Vantage works and should be part of my weekly
server maintenance? (Hoping not!)

I also fine _sqlsrv.exe processes that I know are there because of ODBC
connections but they never close. Should they?

Joe

Joe,

Look at your Progress Explorer Tool. Right click and go to Status on your Mfgsys803 Appserver. Click on details. How many Appservers are running?

Do you have other environments running that you use? (Test, Pilot, Train)

You shouldn't be stopping those services from Task Mgr unless they hang in the Progress Explorer tool.

A lot of times you will have "Available" appserver services that are waiting to process something.

Ensure you have the latest Open Edge patch found on EpicWeb.

But still, call support and tell them this and let them open a WebEx and poke around. Nancy Luna is good in Support.
