All, I have a question on which I have NOT been able to find any info. We have a purchased part used in an operation that is marked as Backflush, with a primary bin and warehouse. The part is also marked as Backflush. The primary bin on this part is an SMI however. The part is not backflushing when the operation is complete, even with enough quantity for the operation. Can you backflush from an SMI bin or not?
Thats a good question. I know that for SMI you dont “own” the inventory until it is consumed. When the PO receipt transaction takes place, there is no GL transaction against inventory or AP.
I was curious about this so I did some testing in a Dev environment. Backflush doesnt appear to pull from a SMI bin. You can do a manual material issue from a SMI bin though. When you do, it does a PUR-STK transaction followed by a STK-MTL transaction.
Is your SMI bin physically located at the point of use?
If not you can set up a 2 bin system in epicor, have one bin be the SMI bin that is replenished by POs and the other is the Point of use bin that is replenished with a Stock Move from the SMI bin. When the replenishment transaction takes place is when you will ‘Own’ the inventory.
Thanks, Craig and everyone else who responded! We already have standard and SMI bins set for inventory, for some reason the user(s) thought they could backflush directly to the SMI bin, however I saw no evidence of that for other parts.
