Greetings! We are in the process of setting up and using the QA system to put incoming equipment on hold. We need a formal system to track when machine components are missing or broken, keep the machines on hold until they are complete, and then issue the reworked machine to a project job.
The system itself is working great for us - with one exception. When I have a serial number tied to a DMR, I can’t issue it to a rework job. We can’t have unallocated hours on the shop floor, so how do I track labor for the machine rework? Is there a way to get the hold machine onto a job?
Thanks!
We have serialized parts and disposition to rework all the time. What do you mean you “can’t issue” the piece? Like, what is the exact problem you’re running into?
When I try to issue the material (machine) to a job, the serial number isn’t available - it doesn’t appear on the list when you click “Retrieve Available” . I guess I’m assuming that because the serial number is on an open DMR, I can’t issue it.
Are you saying that you accept the material via DMR Processing to a rework job? I was really hesitant to do that since technically the machine isn’t in a usable state yet.
Yes. A serialized part can only be in one place at a time. DMR represents a inspection and holding location, a state where you’re determining what to do. Once you’ve decided to rework, it should be accepted into the rework job. The rework job is what turns the discrepant item into a usable one (ideally).
Ok - I guess we will have to work with this. I was hoping to be able to track all missing or broken parts using dmr comments, but will have to work with job comments instead. Thanks for the help!
I suppose you could create a stub rework job with just a disassembly op to track labor. Note the results in DMR, then issue the serialized machine, plus any additional material to the rework job…all the costs should follow the piece as long as it passes through the job at some point.
