I’m guessing this is a lost cause since I haven’t been able to find a way to do this yet, but I was wondering if there was any way to put a part in our part master and build a BOM for that item that contains purchase direct material lines, or if all the material lines have to be a item in your part master as well.
If the only way is to do it on a job and make that job a template for future reference then we know how to do that already.
You have to create a part master record for the material, but if you set it to NonStock then jobs created using that material will automatically have it set to Purchase Direct using supplier information from the Part Master and Part Plant for the material. Parts-on-the-fly are good for one-off materials, but if the material is set up in a BOM, it probably should have a part record behind it since it will be used more than once.
This was a request from our in house R&D department who wanted to document in house machine components in our manufacturing system, so to be honest these pieces of equipment will probably be built once, maybe twice depending on application and then the BOM just sit there stagnant.
This is one reason why they don’t want to add all of the components (hundreds of electrical components) into our DB since they are never used elsewhere. Sounds like the two best methods to document this equipment is via an Excel DB for a BOM, or just use the Job method to add material lines that aren’t in our system if they really want it present in Epicor.
