Problems with printing

We also only had the problem after we went to 2003 server, the workaround I
described in my last email on this will get your users printing again until
Epicor find a resolution.

We have been having this problem also with version 5.2. The Crystal
forms/reports seem to be the ones causing most of the problems. We are
trying to print to a network printer, and even if we set that printer as
a default printer; if it doesn't work we have to close Vantage and then
try again.
I really didn't notice this being such a problem until we got a new
server for file and print sharing. We went from Server NT4 to Server
2003.

Yes. We are on 6.1. We have never found a solution. If anyone knows how to fix this please post!

Yeah.... buy a different ERP package.

Vantage has been plagued with printing problems ever since I started
with it at V3 in 1999. And printing woes are easily in the "Top 10
FAQs" on this list for just as long.

You know What is funny - is everytime I get a new cam (seems to be quite
often) - they ask me any problems and I say the big one is printing problems
- and their response is always "really I never heard of anyone else having
this problem!"

It might be your temp directory, too many old files in there. I have a
del command added to my logon script, so every time my users log on,
they clear the folder of any old files.

Are the problems occurring with Crystal forms and reports or the
Progress forms? I've seen many printing problems with Crystal
compatability but none with Progress forms.

It does it to random workstations. It's not just one station but it does not always happen everytime.

I think at this point it's mostly the crystal forms that this happens to. But this is all they really print anyways.

My troubles almost always seem to be Crystal forms, but at different user
locations (traveler in engineering, quote and sales order in sales, p/o form
in pruchasing and pack list in shipping).

Is there something that needs to be done to the form to make it more
"bullet-proof"?

through the control panel). Since we have been doing that the printing
issues have gone down.

Things that have worked here (some already noted):
1. Keep Mfgwrk61 (or whatever) on user PC cleaned out
2. Apply all Crystal patches to user PC (see Epicor FTP site Crystal folder or Business Objects web site)
3. Copy selected Crystal related .DLL files from Vantage server to client (like crpe32.dll expecially)
(or....use distribution wizard to distribute ANY small report with .DLLs included to the user PC)
4. Vague recollection about running some regocx routine on user PC
5. Try to use a generic a print driver for a printer a possible
6. In Crystal developer...print preview a report to a suspect printer where issue has occured - then save the report.

Not gauranteed but we have not had any of this issue in a long time (over a year).

Might want to try and only print to the default printer (configured
through the control panel). Since we have been doing that the printing
issues have gone down.

Thus far I am the only one who has had any problems with it. For me, it
only happens when I try and print a job traveler. I have only had this
problem within the last few weeks; this problem just came out of no where.
Everything was working just fine up until then without incident.

We also have printing issues...when we print travelers from time to time nothing prints and the user is bounced from the Vantage program. I was informed two weeks ago by support that this is a Progress issue and they are releasing a patch soon that will resolve these issues.

We have the exact problem with network printers and have found a workaround.
It only happens when printing a Crystal report which is most of what we do,
but when your user first logs in they must first print a Progress report
e.g. Production Detail Report and thereafter the Crystal reports will also
print. Report Builder reports also print ok but printing one of them does
not clear the problem like the PDR does. This has to be done each time they
login however.

We have been having this problem also with version 5.2. The Crystal
forms/reports seem to be the ones causing most of the problems. We are
trying to print to a network printer, and even if we set that printer as
a default printer; if it doesn't work we have to close Vantage and then
try again.
I really didn't notice this being such a problem until we got a new
server for file and print sharing. We went from Server NT4 to Server
2003.
