I have a customer using Vista 8.03 and when attempting to print to PDF nothing happens. We’ve rebooted the servers with no change. How does Vista handle printing? Any specific services or locations to check? Any insight is appreciated.
Did you have any luck restoring printing? This suddenly stopped working for us. Regular printing to a printer and even print preview has stopped.
Generally restarting the appserver processes using the Progress Explorer Tool on the Vista server will resolve most printing issues.
The stop and start order of the appserver processes is important. On my first day in Epicor Support many moon ago, the very first thing I was told is: stop the appserver processes longest to shortest in name, start the appserver processes shortest to longest in name. (I still have the post-it note that my patient cube neighbor handed me from that day)
Anyway, stop order:
Mfgsys803ProcessServer
Mfgsys803TaskAgent
Mfgsys803
start order:
Mfgsys803
Mfgsys803TaskAgent
Mfgsys803ProcessServer
- On the Vista server, launch the Progress Explorer Tool from the Windows start menu.
- Expand the name of your server > AppServer folder from the left hand Console Root tree.
- Locate the MfgSys803ProcessServer appserver process. Right-click on this appserver process and select Stop. Wait 10 seconds.
- Locate the Mfgsys803TaskAgent appserver process. Right-click on this appserver process and select Stop. Wait 10 seconds.
- Locate the Mfgsys803TaskAgent appserver process. Right-click on this appserver process and select Start. Wait 10 seconds.
- Locate the MfgSys803ProcessServer appserver process. Right-click on this appserver process and select Start. Wait 10 seconds.
and log into the Vista client and try to print / print preview a report.
We have an acronym for that…
This bring back memories! Amazed you remember this is in perfect sequence.
I probably had a script for this at some point
Thank you very much! Turned out it was a mistake on our end. We changed a users password and that account happened to be the one used for printing authentication. So created a new user and password and then changed the user credential in the System Agent Maintenance section.
Thank you again for the help with the stop/start order. Still learning the quirks of the system.
