Printing Edit List Halts at 99% and PC Freezes

I really can't say about specifics, It was a really general problem where
the user kept having the lock up problem with the mouse, I was going to add
a component that needed another plug. I had a higher wattage power supply,
installed it then went on to tackle the Freeze problem and it never occurred
again. This was before I installed the new component. It really didn't
make a lot of sense (still doesn't) from time to time I've encountered
other "freeze" problems and put in a higher wattage power supply and had it
solved about half the time. This has generally been the case on systems
that are older and are on a lot.

Power supply would not freeze just Progress would it? PC runs fine as soon
as Progress task is ended. It ONLY occurs on edit lists (checks, invoices,
labor, etc....) all other Progress reports and RB reports are OK. It gets
to 99% and freezes, even the mouse won't move but keyboard allows
Ctrl-Alt-Del then mouse frees up to allow end-tasking Progress.

Another thing to look at, Your power supply. I've had similar FREEZE
problems resolved by putting in a better power supply.

You might try checking the RAM in the PC's that are freezing. We had a
problem in AP with a new check format. In the middle of processing the
screen would freeze. After some hair pulling and posting the problem on the
group, we were told to check our RAM. The computer that was freezing only
had 128 mg of RAM. If we processed on a computer with 256, there was no
problem.

When printing any type of edit list (labor, invoices, etc...) the box that
pops up showing the printing progress halts and 99% and the screen freezes
(mouse cursor and all). Ctrl-Alt-Del does activate the task manager and the
Progress task can be ended which then frees up the mouse and everything
else. The edit list does actually print completely despite the freeze up.
It is as if the box that displays the printing progress does not get
informed of the printing status from the printer and hangs there. The
printers in question are all on the network (not local LPT) and are using HP
IIP driver (even though they are an HP 8000 and a Ricoh Aficio). I have
also updated all PCs in question to IE 6.0 (as support suggested). We are
on 5.20.305 and the problem started when we migrated to 5.20 (and Progress
9.1D). The users are all Win98se. The printers are newly (that is, after
problem started) installed on (shared from) a new Win2K server (which did
not help solve the issue).

Anyone else seeing problems printing just edit lists? Any other suggestions
for things to try?

Thanks. For different reasons I already boosted 2 of the 3 PCs having the problem (the only people who do edit lists) to 256MB and they still see the freezing occasionally. I am very suspicious that it is a Progress vs. Printer Driver issue. But I am likewise suspicious of the printer's memory because the 8MB HP 8000 seems to have the problem more than when they send to the 16MB Ricoh. So perhaps memory is the issue after all.

It gets to 99% and freezes, even the mouse won't move but keyboard allows Ctrl-Alt-Del then mouse frees up to allow end-tasking Progress.

Another thing to look at, Your power supply. I've had similar FREEZE
problems resolved by putting in a better power supply.

You might try checking the RAM in the PC's that are freezing. We had a
problem in AP with a new check format. In the middle of processing the
screen would freeze. After some hair pulling and posting the problem on the
group, we were told to check our RAM. The computer that was freezing only
had 128 mg of RAM. If we processed on a computer with 256, there was no
problem.

I don't recall if I've posted this question before but everything I've
tried, as suggested by Epicor Support, has not resolved it.

When printing any type of edit list (labor, invoices, etc...) the box that
pops up showing the printing progress halts and 99% and the screen freezes
(mouse cursor and all). Ctrl-Alt-Del does activate the task manager and the
Progress task can be ended which then frees up the mouse and everything
else. The edit list does actually print completely despite the freeze up.
It is as if the box that displays the printing progress does not get
informed of the printing status from the printer and hangs there. The
printers in question are all on the network (not local LPT) and are using HP
IIP driver (even though they are an HP 8000 and a Ricoh Aficio). I have
also updated all PCs in question to IE 6.0 (as support suggested). We are
on 5.20.305 and the problem started when we migrated to 5.20 (and Progress
9.1D). The users are all Win98se. The printers are newly (that is, after
problem started) installed on (shared from) a new Win2K server (which did
not help solve the issue).

Anyone else seeing problems printing just edit lists? Any other suggestions
for things to try?
