Print Window Problem

Yeah! That's really aggravating. Has anyone ever lodged a complaint, or
suggestion with Epicor about that one? (please do! I can't.)

I'd guess someone just forgot to stick a "NO-LOCK" in the code that reads
CustRpt for the path to the report library. Vantage doesn't update them
during the process, so there's no reason to demand exclusive access.

It's probably a 2 minute fix, and 2 days effort through the chain of
command there.

Since changing servers we have a minor problem.
When a user runs a custom report the printer selection window comes up
behind the report. RB and regular Vantage do not.
On some reports it is even hidden. The printer window is the active window,
but it is just behind the report window.
Is there something I need to change in the report?

We changed servers, NT4.0 to W2K. Went from Progress 9.029 to 9.044 and kept
the same Vantage version 4.0811.

Thanks.

Jim,

I know it this sounds stupid but, has Epicor certified V. 4 to run on W2K?

We got into this a bit trying to run V. 3 clients with W2K and had a few small problems, mostly with printing issues.
Tech Supt said V. 3 wasn't certified to run with W2K.
We are still running NT for our Vantage Server to avoid any problems.

Thats why I'm asking.

I talked to Tech support about some issues in moving to W2K but did not ask
that specfic question.
You may be correct. It is not a major problem but "Users are having to do
one more click"!!!.
All else went well with the move. I guessed it had to do with the change to
another progress version.
I have not done anything to these reports other than move them to the new
server.

That's always been an annoying problem, esp in Vantage 3 and 4. But the
only time I've seen it happen is when the user double clicks the print
button (first click opens printer selection, 2nd throws windows' focus back
to the original dialogue box.) Did see one where some "fancy" mouse
software (Intelli-Point or something similar) was installed on the client
machine, and sending double clicks with only one button press.

But this just came with a server upgrade?! That doesn't make sense. All
the Vantage code and supporting libraries are executed at the client
machine; the sever only servers up files, it's not running them. Was
anything changed on the client PCs? If not, if may be an anomaly in the
newer version of Progress.

I thought about the double click problem myself, but that is not it. I
recreated the problem on my pc as well.
As I said, it is not a show stopper but annoying. Ironic that Tech support
said that if I was not going to upgrade our Vantage version, that I should
at least upgrade the Progress version to fix some Print issues!

Jim,

We also have this problem. We have had it since 5.0. We're now on 5.1, Progress 9.1C and still have this problem. It doesn't happen all the time, just every once in a while. I'm hoping that 5.2, Progress 9.1D helps when I upgrade us in December.

I agree with you..........it's not our worst problem, but it gets to be a pain sometimes.

You might want to consider changing from using a custom report link to using
a little progress module that runs the report. It avoids the problem you
describe and gives you the option of having tick boxes for "default
printer", "print preview".

Isn't there also a problem if a second person tries to access the report and
the first person hasn't closed the custom report screen ?
